We just had a 5 day break off of school/driving the bus. So I should be all caught up on stuff right? I mean yea, I worked my other job(s), but still, afternoons off, mornings with extra sleep. Everything got done and put away, and caught up and ready for the upcoming holidays right? Nope! It did not happen. For one thing, every time we are on a break, I have to schedule all of the appointments because it means I have a chance to go without having to rush back. I don't mind driving the bus, but it definitely segments my day. So I got my DOT physical, and on Friday, I got released from the shoulder surgeon. I talked to him at length about the things I still can't seem to do, and he assured me that the recovery from shoulder surgery is a year. He said I have good movement, and less pain than he would expect. He also told me to use it, lift things, and keep working on getting back to normal. I assume, someday, I will reach for things and it won't hurt. Or I will lift things and then not almost drop them. Someday. Until then, I will just deal with it. I am definitely better than when it would dislocate when I moved, so there is that! I am happy to be done with the doctor parts of this - I don't have time to keep going to the doctor!
In other news, last year, around this time, Jim and I were shopping and I bought myself a Christmas cactus. Just because. I have kept it alive in my office, and it has grown, and now it is blooming. It might not be exciting to you, but I am thrilled! I usually do terrible with succulents because I love to water stuff. I have killed a lot of cacti! This is Christy - and she is beautiful! And yes, all my office plants have names - now that Evie is in school, I am here all by myself - I got lonely! Even if you aren't excited by Christy, please fake it, because this is a true love of mine, and I can't take anything except excitement over it!
Over the 5 days off, I had one day where I could sleep in. That was Saturday morning. At 6 am Saturday, the dogs went crazy barking in the living room. I guess I will sleep when I am dead. I decided I was up, I could do a couple of things and watch the news. I heard the weather report say we were going to have flurries. A couple hours later, I realized we were having a full on snow storm! Crazy weather people! With the snow, came actual cold weather, which we have not had yet this year, and let me tell you - I was NOT ready! I hate the cold! Everything takes longer - outside chores, bus warming up time, getting enough layers of clothing on, dealing with muddy dogs and I just don't have the time for it! Other people talk about how pretty it is....and maybe to them it is pretty, but to me, it just looks like more work.
I do like these snowflakes that I put up for Evie's birthday party though....I think they are going to stay up until spring!
Cameron sent me this picture of Lauren - he said a woman with a clip board - she must be important! I already knew that! She did tell me that she is settling in to her job more and feeling more comfortable in the roles she has. I am happy about that!
You know who else wasn't ready for snow? My rose bushes - they were still blooming after the incredibly warm fall we have had! I sort of felt sorry for them - it must have been a real shock!
The break was really good though - we had 2 Thanksgiving dinners, went to the zoo lights in KC, had Evie's birthday party, and did manage to mostly get the house cleaned up and the laundry done. I had a little time to hang with my people, and that is the best use of time. Maybe we can get caught up over Christmas break? Maybe.....
