Kidwatch 2017

Preston, Quincy and I got all of the does into the kidding pens today. Honestly, we might be just a tad early as none of them seem overly miserable yet, but they are getting close and I didn't want to risk not having them penned up and safe from critters.

Buttee seemed to think this meant she should be getting extra food.

Goats make me laugh. They are always happy to see you. They remind me of giant goofy dogs.

The girls got some gift cards to the hatchery from Grandma Chris and Grandpa Ken for Christmas. We have started looking for 4-H projects and are thinking about placing the order. One thing Quincy would like to do is get a peacock to keep her pea hen (Harriet) company. Harriet is sort of tame. She doesn't exactly run from you, but she also won't eat out of your hand. We really enjoy her! I especially appreciate that she swoops in and cleans up any accidental spills!

The first chicken that Quincy hatched was this black rooster. He is really pretty, but is starting to get a little big for his britches and I am starting to worry about the level of aggression he has. So far, he has not gone after anyone but he seems like he thinks about it. I took some pictures so we could maybe give him away. She doesn't seem upset with this idea! I think she sees his cocky attitude and remembers the last nasty boy we had!

The girls are really starting to lay! Quincy has been getting over a dozen eggs a day. Luckily, we all like eating eggs! Today I made breakfast burritos and put them in the freezer, and we also had hard boiled eggs for lunch and deviled eggs with dinner! I am taking all of this as signs that spring is here!

Preston's tournament.

This winter has been filled with basketball. I am sure if you regularly look at this blog, you might have grown weary of basketball posts. Heck, I am weary of making basketball posts. It isn't everything we have been doing, but it has consumed a high percentage of our life lately! Because with 3 kids playing, and trying to follow Colin a little bit, plus trying to keep up with other activities, Jim and I have had to do a lot of divide and conquer. Jim was coaching Preston's team, so when dividing, he needed to go that direction. As a result, I did not get to see Preston play very much.
Preston had his end of season tournament yesterday, and there was no way I wanted to miss it. Quincy's team had practice, a team lunch, and then Attended the KSU vrs KU women's game together. I had to call in reinforcements.

Preston (#40) had his first game against Council Grove. He was confident they could win this game because of adjustments they made on their defense. They would have to win to advance in the tournament.

It was a really good game. Preston made some great plays- including a steal for the open lay-up. Unfortunately, his mom is a bad photographer!

The game was fun to watch. Preston's team came back from being behind to tie and go to overtime. They ended up losing by 1 point!

It was fun to watch how far they have come this season. I am proud of them! The coaching was pretty good too!

My friend took Quincy to her practice and team lunch, and Grandma was happy to go to Allen Fieldhouse and try to recruit the girls to "the dark side."

She was not successful! KSU won, and my kids are forever purple!
I do appreciate the help! I was glad I got to watch Preston!

Last league games

My parents/grandparents used to have some saying about red sky in the morning. This picture does not do justice to how bright red the sky was on Friday morning. It was eerie almost. Beautiful but strange. I think the saying was something about taking warning- indicating that the weather was changing. It was 70 degrees Friday morning! I didn't want to see a red sky or think about any type of change!

Cameron had his last league games at Iola this week. He had a great game during jv, and although I could tell he was frustrated by the scoreboard, I could appreciate how hard he was trying to turn things around. He always seems to work hard no matter what.
He also got some time during the varsity game. He made some points, and had a lot of rebounds. I am pretty proud of this boy!

I drove the bus to Iola. I actually am really enjoying this extra side job. I like the kids. I like going to the games. I really am happy that my mom talked me into this! I left with the other driver at the end of the 4th quarter to start the buses. When I walked outside, it was overwhelmingly hot. My phone said 76 degrees. It was thundering and lightening, and starting to rain. I admit to being a little apprehensive about the drive home. The boys loaded up and we headed out. It wasn't doing much. The lightening was wild! We got about halfway back, and it was like driving into a brick wall at one point. I think I hit a cold front. The wind. It was nuts! The boys scrambled to put their windows up! It dropped 40 full degrees. Craziest thing! We made it back safe, and the assistant coach who works nights was pleased with the time we made! I couldn't help but wonder if this was happening in February, what spring will be like?

Not to leave this out....

Preston's team also played basketball this weekend and they beat Americus. Unfortunately, since Jim was busy coaching, nobody got any photos! We are excited about this win though!

Just a little more basketball

Cameron played Friday night at Wellsville. He had a great JV game. He was a beast. They won!

He also got in some time in the varsity game. He played great there too. They weren't as successful in the second game.

Yesterday, Quincy played in a tournament at Saint Mary's. Her team won 1 and lost 2. They played really well and it was a good experience for them I think.

It was another beautiful February day! We spent our time between games playing outside!
