Coulda used more relaxin’

This was a strange weekend.  Overall, not much to do, but the stuff we had going was at weird times.    We managed to get a lot of stuff done around the house.
Quincy and Preston had to work a shift in a CWF concession stand at a demolition derby in Ottawa.  Because Quincy had to work at Los Vaqueros, we signed up for the late shift.   We were supposed to work last night from 10-11:30.  When we got there, they had run out of food.  Apparently they had run out twice before, and then decided when they ran out the 3rd time that was going to be it for the night.   That basically meant we just sold drinks and cleaned.   We didn’t end up being there as long as we thought.  I wasn’t overly sad about that!  We didn’t get home until late (although not as late as we planned).

We had a good Sunday around here.  The kids helped with some household chores, Preston cleaned up the garage a little, and Quincy and Harper went fishing for a while before Quincy went to work.  We had Sunday dinner and cleaned everything up early. I have talked to the boys who couldn’t be here.  It was a nice day.   It doesn’t mean that I am ready for heading back to work and school, but I can’t complain about a good weekend.

HoCo 21

This was homecoming week on the Trail.   I got asked to drive some 1st graders to the homecoming parade.  I told them I would, but that I would have to bring Evie along, since it was before Madison got off work.  We had to be lined up at noon, so that meant lunch on the go! Evelyn didn’t seem to mind. She even told me that Casey’s is great!

Gg also drove a homecoming bus today!   We all sat together and  watched the parade.   Evelyn got way too much candy and had fun watching for Preston and Quincy.

We found them!   Quincy on cymbals in the percussion section,

And Preston in with the trumpets!

I was happy that one of the 1st grade classes on my bus was Mallory’s class.  That meant Evie had someone to sit with!   They were both excited about it!

Tonight we went to the game.  I went to watch the band’s halftime show.  Jim was excited to go watch football.  It was a pretty good game with trail winning by 1 with 45 seconds left.
Now I’m waiting for Quincy to get out of the homecoming dance, and feeling like bed time should have been a couple hours ago.  I am happy we can sleep in tomorrow!

Picnic day

Today is the first day of fall-type weather.  As much as I love summer, if we have to be in school, and sitting in a bus rather than beside the pool, this weather was very welcomed!   When Evie arrived at my house today, before the sun came up, I said oh it’s so cold today!  I was informed “no Grammy it’s chilly!”   Oh!  Ok then. GG stopped by the office this morning to visit Evie. As she was leaving, I mentioned that I had to run to dollar general for some office supplies and paper towels.  Gg gave Evie a $5 and told her to get some fruit snacks.  Evie did get fruit snacks, but she also picked out a witch watch that lights up, some witch fingers, and a package of several pairs of Dracula teeth.  When we got back to the office, I opened the Dracula teeth, which she was calling dragon teeth. I took one pair and put them in my mouth. She wigged out and decided she hates dragon teeth.  She liked the fingers though.

I told Evelyn that it was such a nice day, we should have a picnic at the park.  I mentioned it to poppy when he stopped by to leave the truck.  He thought that sounded like a great idea.  So I ordered a pizza and poppy picked us up.  We didn’t make it very far before poppy started getting phone calls - low water/no water/no pressure.  The water tower is getting  painted so he thought maybe it was related to that.  After about 11 more calls, the actual culprit was found - a large waterline break.  Needless to say, Evelyn and I enjoyed our time at the park a lot more than Jim did.

We dropped Jim off and headed home, where I put on a large pot of white chili and made blueberry cobbler because when the weather gets cool, it is required to make soups and warm desserts.   Of course I came home from the bus route excited to eat dinner.  About 2 minutes after I got home, Preston texted to say he was grabbing dinner with friends and hitting the volleyball game.  About 3 minutes after that, Quincy texted to say she got asked to come into work.  Jim of course didn’t get off work because of the waterline break.  The little girls don’t like white chili much.  Nobody was around to enjoy fall foods with me.

Again

The weekend disappeared again.  I know I should be used to it by now, but it slips away and I’m never ready.
Yesterday, we worked at a car show in Ottawa, parking cars.  This is about the 8th time we have worked this event, and each and every time I am shocked at how big of a show it is.  The kids earned a ton of money, and it is all profit.  My favorite kind of fundraiser….show up and work. No selling, no delivering.  I will say that although it isn’t hard to park cars, it is always interesting to see how people act.   Oh you’re a saving these close spaces for handicapped people?  Well too freaking bad. I’m parking here and you can’t stop me.  Oh it costs money to park in this lot?  I don’t have cash and I refuse to turn around.  I had 3-4 people who basically ran me over to park for free.  I decided it wasn’t a hill I was willing to die on, but I did wish some karma type revenge on them as they drove in.   The good news is the vast majority of people are kind.  It was so hot, and there is no shade out there.   I was fried when we got done!  I don’t know that I’ve ever been happier to leave anywhere before!
I will be exceptionally happy when the CWF fundraising days are over!

When we got home, Preston and Quincy went on to work at the vineyard, followed by Quincy doing a later shift at the restaurant.  She was absolutely tired!
Thursday of last week was a tough day.  Started with a flat tire on the bus.  My boss told me he would meet me with a different bus.  I took off in my van to meet him.  Got a few miles from home and   my van broke down.  Jim and I determined what was wrong with it.   Last night, Preston went to Topeka and got some stuff the internet and Andrew recommended.  He also picked up dinner and brought it home because I said I wasn’t cooking!  I appreciate his willingness to run errands sometimes.

Cameron spent this weekend in Waco at a student government association conference.  He said he had a lot of fun, and learned a lot. He also said Texas sweet tea tastes exactly like Kansas sweet tea.  Good to know Cameron. Thanks!

Gigi came over to swim one last time with the girls this afternoon.  Madison and Mallory staged some fall photos, and we had a nice Sunday dinner.  I didn’t get to swim in the afternoon or watch the photo session because o had to help with year end paperwork for 4-H.  The good news is that it is done and ready to be turned in tomorrow.   Evie, Saige, Harper and I did get in the pool for what feels like our last swim of the season this evening.

Mallory even took fall photos of Carlos.  Speaking of Carlos, one of the funniest things I have ever seen was today when we tried to trim his nails.  He literally cried and tried to bite us.  He was so mad at us!  He doesn’t know he is a tiny dog.
And although I hate that the weekend is ending, I am excessively blessed that we had such a good weekend. I am thankful for it, and will try my hardest to make this week a good one!

Dog day

Yesterday, we attended a birthday party for Olive.  It may seem crazy, but if someone offers to make lunch, we tend to let them!
Madison even baked a dog cake (sugarless peanut butter and applesauce).  The dogs all seemed to enjoy it!  Carlos had fun running with Daisy Paige.  It was a nice lunch.

Cameron and Bella attended in spirit.
The kids have today off school.  I do not profess to know why, but I always welcome an extra day off!  When I get off work at the watershed, we are going to run a few errands….the stuff I put off because we were having such a fun weekend!  Adulting at its finest.
