Many hats

Harper is really enjoying school.  Her teacher is doing "abc camp" and each day they focus on one letter. Every day they make some sort of a hat.  Today Harper was very proud that she wore her cat socks on "c" day and she was extremely pumped about her caterpillar hat!
Cameron has discovered Amazon.  Madison's addiction has been passed along!  Today he had 2 packages.  The first one was a sticker for his car. The second was rain gear for football season.  I  am speechless.  Maybe Harper can borrow his hat during "u" day?
The school year seems to be off to a decent start.  Preston came home today with a permission sheet so he can run for student council.  He had already gotten the required student signatures and a reference letter.   He also got himself a good campaign manager!  These kids crack me up.   Quincy had her first homework of the year.  She was not enthusiastic about it.  She has said she likes her teacher so far though so I  am taking that as a positive sign!

Burnin' ring of fire

Every time Jim decides to burn a pile of brush we all have our roles.  The goats all have to come and see to it that the fire burns properly.  Preston has to get the marshmallows, Quincy runs speakers out the window for music.  The little girls ask a million questions and
Curley has to come see what snacks the kids will share with her!
And if Curley has a snack, then Blitz better get one too!
Shamelessly posing with the evidence in her nose!
Love me some Saturday family time! They don't even realize they are working!

Blue/white scrimmage night

Tonight was the opening of football season with the inter squad scrimmage.  Colin was on the white team.
Colin had a great game!  So much fun!  It is going to be a good season!

A project

Grandma saw this idea on Pinterest where you make an adult size shirt with your child's graduation year on it and then Take your kids photo on the first day of school wearing the shirt.  It is a neat-o idea and she did a nice job of stitching the year on it.  I only have two hopes for this - first- I hope that Harper never gets held back and the shirt then contains the wrong year.  I think that won't be an issue however my second concern is way more realistic.  I  am concerned that I will lose the shirt.  13 years of first days with the same shirt is a lot for my disorganized nature!!    Maybe I should get a spare shirt just in case!

First day 2015!

It's the first day of school!   Preston and Quincy were up first and early to catch their bus!   There were no tears but there were some groans about why summer cannot last just a few more weeks!
Preston is a 5th grader in Mrs. Smith's class.  He is excited and nervous about going to a new building this year.  He is pretty pumped about his new trumpet and beginning band!  I hope he enjoys Carbondale!
Quincy is back in Scranton again this year with Mrs. Bolz.  Preston has given her a rundown and she seemed excited about it.  I hope she has a great year in the 4th grade!

This is Colin's last first day of school high school!   He didn't argue too much with me about having to pose for photos.  He seemed ready to get this senior thing started!
Cameron is a sophomore.  He seemed a little bit too excited and ready this morning and also a little too happy about the back to school photo session.
Harper is off to kindergarten!   That was a hugely fast 5 years!  She was extremely ready this morning.  She was up and dressed way before she needed to be, and had plenty of time for the cat to dirty up her shirt!   Luckily she also had time for a wardrobe change!
There were so many crying kids and moms this morning.  I am happy to report that none of them were from our family.  Harper jumped right in, followed the teachers directions and looked like a school pro!  She has Mrs. Crumpton this year and although we have never met her before, we have heard wonderful things.  I hope Harper loves going to school!
Saige is all alone!   I teased her by saying she has to go to the school of hard knocks. She got upset and said she didn't want to go there!  She is going back to story time and she is also going to attend a new preschool religion Ed class that they are starting.  She calls it "church school" and she is really happy about it!
I hope all our kids have a great year!

Lessons in corn

This evening we spent over at my parent's  farm.   Grandpa was cutting corn for silage.  They had one row that got bent over instead of cut and grandma thought maybe we would like to come pick it up for chickens, goats etc.
So we went on a corn picking adventure.
Saige spent a lot of time picking out ears she thought her goat would like.
Harper looked for little ears.
And all the kids had questions about what grandpa was doing exactly.  So we watched him chop for a while.  The kids were pretty impressed with his corn chopper.
And then we followed the guy who was hauling it and watched them unload and pack it for silage.  The kids thought uncle Eric had the best job with packing, but I told them that I once remembered grandpa Robert rolling his bulldozer while packing.   It's not as fun as it looks!
Nobody thinks that eating chopped corn would taste very good!  Everyone enjoyed riding around in the gator though!
And the critters here at home were very appreciative of the field trip we took!
