Summer lovin'

Summer is my favorite.  Although  a source of mild contention between Jim and I, baseball is not my favorite sport.  But....when my kids are playing I truly do love to watch.  I also love to have a few minutes to sit and visit with friends and perhaps enjoy a nacho or a cold drink.
Preston's team this year is so much fun to watch.  I can almost understand Jim's undying love of the sport when watching these boys.  They are really talented and play together amazingly well.  They also have a coach who we respect and like.  That helps a lot.
Preston has been playing great!  He is having fun and he is enjoying time spent playing with great friends.  That is the reason we do this.
Quincy, in the other hand is on a team that  struggles a little bit more.  Quincy is playing really well though, and seems to be having fun since it is time she gets to hang out with her bff.
It is hard to tell in this photo, but it is 4 little cousins playing Tball all in a row!  Lilly, Ava, Saige and Ryan.  It is so much fun having them all play together.  There are more cousins too, but they are on the other team!
I love a good summer storm.  I also am in love with Kansas!  Loving where you are in life is a blessing.  I am very fortunate in that respect.
I decided that summer league basketball is nice due to the gyms being air conditioned.  Cameron's team has some struggles, but I do believe they are improving.  We also think the new coach is pretty good.  Cameron played in a tournament at Northern Heights on Saturday, and that worked well because Jim was able to go watch that way.  The summer league games start too early for Jim to get to many of them.
I enjoy having some evenings to watch Cameron and visit with him on the journey.  He is growing up way too fast and it seems like I don't get to see him much.  Busy kid!
I can't believe June is almost over!  It is incredible how time flies when you are having fun.

Auction time.

This weekend we spent setting up, helping with, and cleaning up aunt Geraldine's auction.  Cameron may have gotten carried away buying items for his future home.
There was a good turn out of people but it was super hot today.
The heat worked as an advantage for these kids who did the concession stand.  They were establishing a World's of Fun ticket fund.  I would say that they made enough money that a cousin day there is a definite!
I think we are all happy to have this event over with though!

Welcome to adulthood Colin!

Colin turned 18 years old today!  He asked for lottery tickets.  He won a couple bucks!  He is now out celebrating with friends.  Excited about adulthood!  I told him the promise of adulthood isn't all it's cracked up to be!  He doesn't believe me  yet! He did get a nice surprise in the mail today.  An academic scholarship from Barton County.   Money he will both need and appreciate this fall!
Colin is a kid who has constantly kept us guessing and entertained.  On my way to summer league basketball with Cameron, he texted to say after work he was buying himself a kayak for his birthday.  And so he did.  So did his future roommate.  They have been kayaking as part of their daily workouts.  I am not quite sure what prompted this newfound hobby, but as 18 year olds go, it seems harmless!   Colin is always willing to try new things.  He works hard at the things he tries and he usually is fairly successful at most of the stuff he does. We are very proud of you and love you bunches buddy!  Happy birthday!
Side note....cake was made and decorated by Preston who is discovering a love for baking this summer.

Summer league

Cameron missed the first couple of summer league games due to being on the cwf trip.  He was concerned since he missed both the first games, and the basketball team camp that he might not play much tonight.  He has a new coach so we just didn't know how it would go.
He got quite a bit of time on the court.  He also scored several points and had some awesome assists.  The first game was against Holton and they only lost by a couple of points.  They looked pretty good.
The second game was against Rock Creek. They got massacred.  We will just push that little game under the rug and try again next time!   The new coach seems nice and I appreciated how much teaching he was taking the time to do. H

Oh wowsa!

We are masters of packing activities into a weekend!  It is good that we love chaos!  Friday, Quincy had a game at Osage City.  She played well.  They were tied and went into I don't t recall how many extra innings.  They brought her into the game to pitch in the final 2 innings.   She did a great job of striking out batters.  Her team ended up winning by 3.  Late night!
The thing I enjoy about watching Quincy play, no matter where they put her on the field, she plays hard and understands the position.  She is a competitor for sure!  She got that from her daddy.
Saturday morning, Saige had a Tball game.  She does a good job paying attention and loves playing.  I get a kick out of her holding her helmet on while she runs bases.
While I was at Tball, Mallory   texted to say that the small spot of poison ivy Preston picked up at camp had become a pretty full fledged case.  It was complete with spots on his face, and between his fingers.  I wanted to make some posters for my class reunion, but instead, I took Preston to express care!  We also went to dillons to get him steroids!  It always amazes me how fast steroids work.  Yesterday he was covered, today the spots look dry and some are even disappearing.  He says he feels much less itchy.
Saturday evening was my 25th class reunion.  We didn't do a whole lot of work on this, mostly just contacting people on facebook.  The word spread and I heard from approximately half of my classmates.  Not all of those who contacted me showed up, but as a first effort in 25 years, I felt like it was a success.  I had a good time reminiscing and relaxing with old friends.
While I was catching up with old friends, Jim took Preston to his ballgame where Preston's team mercy ruled their opponent and then they went fishing.  Quincy said the fish were biting like crazy and they ended up catching a lot!
They even took a few photos for me!
Today we celebrated Father's Day with this guy. Jim's idea  of how to celebrate is "chillin and grillin!"   It is one of many reasons why I love him so much. He likes being at home as much as I do!  Seriously, I don't think I could have gotten a better guy to be my kid's dad.
The grill masters even let him relax and they cooked him some mighty fine various meats.  They also spent the evening watching the final playoff game.  Honestly, I don't enjoy the NBA, but I didn't have to watch because I took the little guys to their 4-H meeting and swim party.
I love this little but mighty club.  We aren't small in numbers, but most of the members are in the 10 and under age group.  It doesn't stop them from getting a lot done, or from having a great time!
I think I am ready for a break.  I guess I will go back to work!
