Easter weekend

Holy Week is always a long week. The girls think going to church multiple times is unnecessary.  I think it is though. I win.  They were supposed to have Friday off from school, but it was a snow make up day instead, so  we had to go.  I could be upset about it, but I’m not.  We are planning to leave right after school lets out to go to Cameron and Lauren’s graduation, and the schedule is too tight for us to be making up days at the end of the year.  I can sacrifice Good Friday in the interest of my trip not getting messed up later.

Since Topeka schools were out, and that is where Madison drives to, she did have the day off.  The girls enjoyed a fun day with their mom. They had a preschool open house (family might) and a birthday party for one of Evelyn’s friends as well.

I can’t remember if I shared this here before or not.  This photo is absolutely adorable, but to me it is also hilarious.  I think it looks like Volt wants to eat the rabbit, and Cash is hoping to be a good enough boy for a snack!  I was happy that Colin got to come up for the weekend. Spencer had a school project due, so we missed her.  Love you Spencer!  Can’t wait to see you soon!  Colin helped us with Easter preparations, and went fishing with Jim and Andrew a couple of times. I love visiting with him, he has entertaining stories.
Last week, when Jim was at the water conference, he had an evening off, so he went with Colin and Spencer to trivia night. He was excited that for the second time in a month he was on a winning trivia team.  I guess I better start searching for high stakes trivia contests - if he’s going to hold onto all sorts of random knowledge, I shouldn’t hesitate to exploit it right?

Saturday night, some of us got together to dye Easter eggs.  We also made some Easter crafts and had some dinner together, it was a fun filled evening.  We FaceTimed Cameron and Lauren and learned that they were getting ready to smoke a briscuit. I can’t wait until they are living closer!   We missed them today!

We hosted Easter festivities here are your house today.  I was happy to see my niece and nephew and my brothers and sister.  Thanks to my mom for cooking most of the food!  We hid a lot of eggs, but none of the bigger kids wanted to hunt with Evie.  Wrenley picked up some grass, and Saige only wanted the golden egg!   Evelyn ended up with a 5 gallon haul!  She was elated!

Wrenley liked her Easter bucket and 2 eggs!  She’s a fan of her first Easter!

I am beat, but my heart is happy.  I love weekends full of holidays, family, food and fun!

Holy week

We are at this point of Quincy’s senior year.   The part where we plan graduation.  The part where I start to panic.  Is she ready for adult life? (Yes). Am I ready? (Absolutely not).  Ready or not, picking up the invitations somehow made it feel real, and I guess we are doing this thing.  My beautiful, ornery, funny, opinionated little girl is ready to fly.  Also, with Jim being out of town, I managed to get most of them ready to mail. Jim is apparently a distraction!

Here are the photos that we got in trade for baby goat usage!   I think they are amazingly awesome!  I love all of them!  I had to post them all because I couldn’t decide on just one or 2!   I am obsessed with the cuteness!

This one is in Wichita for a water conference this week.  Luckily for him, he got to hang out with Colin.  Unfortunately I was told the food they had was way too salty and they didn’t enjoy it much.  Jim being gone is a mixed bag.  I don’t like him being gone, I miss him.  But sometimes when he is gone, I skip cooking (the girls actually like having sandwiches or a bowl of cereal for dinner).  Also when I get up at 5, I can turn I on all the lights.  It is so weird finding stuff I need in the light!!     I hope he is learning a lot and having fun.  The girls and I went Easter shopping last night.  This is the second time I have been in the feed store and they had baby ducks.  This is also the second time I didn’t buy the baby ducks.  Jim better not be gone long because I guarantee it won’t happen a 3rd time!

So much weekend

Betty was asked to be part of a photography studio’s Easter special.  In exchange, they took Evie and Wrenley’s photos.  It was an easy deal to make!  I was told Betty was a very good girl all day!  I was also told she is exhausted this evening!   I had to work, so Mallory got conned into goat sitting until Jim could get there to pick her up.  Mallory also got conned into taking the girls to the photography session because she was babysitting so Madison and Andrew  could procure Easter provisions.  Not sure who is more exhausted tonight- the goat or aunt Mal!

Or possibly Wrenley Kay who I am told was a rockstar in the smiling department.  I can’t wait to see how the photos turn out!

Jim and Quincy were up early and on the road to Wichita State for Quincy’s orientation.   Jim told me that the people there were extremely helpful and nice.  Quincy said she loved what she is seeing there and the potential for getting her degree from them is great.   Considering this is the only school she has been interested in, I am glad she liked it!   I can’t wait to get home and visit with her more about it!   I am thankful that Jim took her down.  They also got to visit with Colin and Spencer.  Jim isn’t home very long before he travels back down to Wichita for a water conference.   Or something.

Also I might add that I am most happy that Jim remembered to take pictures.  Good job Jim!

Madison sends me a lot of pictures and I love these - Evie talked all morning about how it was homemade pizza night at her house!  I love that she is so excited about helping in the kitchen!  And Wrenley was most gracious as the cheese tester!

They are such sweet girls!
We had a good morning at home today.  Saige and Harper made a neat Easter wreath I forgot to take a picture of. I got laundry done and a few other projects done before I had to come to the liquor store. The store has been moderately busy, which makes time go faster.   I’ve been working on this post off and on, so if it is off track it is because I keep getting interrupted.  The liquor store is an amusing job.  To me it is not difficult, and I like seeing the customers (and my cousins!).

This week I found a sweet 7 week old mini Rex doe for the girls.  I took one, And only one photo. And this is it.  A black blur.  What the heck?  Why didn’t I see it was not a good photo?  Who knows.  This baby is Harper’s.  We have had a weird spring, with 2 litters born and zero survivors.  I’m not sure what we are doing wrong. Nothing as far as I can tell. Just have a group of horrible mothers.  I suspect that they were bred for fur quality and being show rabbits, and not for their great mothering skills.  We may switch breeds, although the mini rexes will always be my favorite.  Maybe adding some new bloodlines will help.  Harper named this baby Bobbi.  I hope she will be a great addition.

A year or so ago, I joined a pool fb group.  It was incredibly educational and helpful. And also causes me great anxiety.  There were so many posts lately of people who got rain, their winter covers got filled with water and the weight collapsed their side walls that I talked Jim into helping me take the cover off.  The water was beautiful under the cover.  However, the cover was also filled with water and some debris and was extremely heavy.  Unfortunately we dropped quite a lot of the debris into the water.  But it is still cleaner this spring than it has ever been in the spring.  I can clear the debris easily enough.  We went ahead and added chlorine to our floats and will work on reassembling the pumps soon.  I’m more than ready for pool season.  Of course, this is Kansas. It was 65-70 all of February and now it is officially spring and it is 27 degrees.  I’ve lived here my whole life. One would think I would know better than to think spring would arrive on time!
