November so far...

So far, our November has been a strange mix of new baby, Thanksgiving, wrestling and a blur of days!

Saige was very, very impressed with her first Thanksgiving! Yes, this is my newest child sleeping on the dining room table on Thanksgiving day!

Someone left a present for Mallory and Madison on their car. I guess it was a donation for our Thanksgiving dinner?

Jim did a really good job of taking photos of Saige when she was born and in the hospital. Mallory uploaded a few of them, but it seemed a shame to not share a few of my favorites!

Saige has already gotten to go to her first wrestling tournament, and she was most impressed with this too!

She slept through the whole thing, but grandma decided when big brother was wrestling, it was safest if grandma did the holding because momma is a bit loud! Colin is having an awesome season!

The big kids have all jumped right in to welcome their new little sister to the family! She is a beloved gift to our family and I think it is safe to say we are all smitten with her!

So much to be thankful for this November! I am a very blessed mom!

Survival of the weekend

I was concerned that we would not survive this weekend with our sanity. Actually, since I am not clinically licensed to make these kinds of judgements, maybe we didn't!
Yesterday was the Overbrook Annual Craft Fair. Mallory and Madison were asked to run the concession stand as a CWF fundraiser, and our 4-H club had a bake sale. Preston had his first official club duty when he and Cam took a turn running the bake sale! I hear that he is a "class A salesman." I think a little kid asking pathetically for old men to buy baked goods is probably a good combination!

The bake sale was a pretty big success I am told. The concession stand was also a success....I judge this success by the fact that they made enough money to pay the grocery bill and have money left over.....and not too much food left over. Success! It was a pretty long day, but we are now a little closer to their financial goal!

While I was helping with the craft fair, Jim took Colin to a wrestling tournament in Silver Lake. Colin had a pretty good day. He won 2 and lost 2 for 4th place. I am told that he did a great job! He must have had a couple of tough matches, because he is all bruised up! He was acolyte at church this morning, and when he walked in, I noticed he has bruising all over the side of his face. It doesn't look very good!

Mallory and Madison worked the past 3 nights selling concessions at the high school play for money toward their band trip. They were very pleased with the amount they made, and with the fact that they actually got to watch the whole play!

We spent today between church and flag football, cleaning house. I am very pleased with how everyone pitched in and how fast it went! I am hoping that it will stay done!

Flag football finale

Today was the grand finale for Preston and Quincy's flag football season. However, Preston's final game was cancelled for unknown reasons. I feel that we really lucked out this season, it has been exceptionally nice on every single Sunday!

Quincy scored a couple of touch downs and had some awesome flag pulls today! I also saw her stop running at the 5 yard line and when a kid tried to pull her flag, she held onto it so it could not be pulled off the belt! We might forget to mention those 'little' details!!

She was pretty happy with her medal, and has worn it except when I made her take a bath. She will probably be sad when I break the news that she will not be sleeping with the medal either!

Her team had one boy who was very sick (just got home from the hospital) and one who flat refused to play today, so they were a bit short, but it didn't stop them from winning their game! And the snacks were good too!! :)

TGIF!!

In case anyone ever wondered, this is the proper way to dress for a Veterans Day assembly at school. Last night, Quincy informed me that she must dress up in red, white and blue for the assembly. She then dumped out her dresser looking for just the right ensemble. I did not think to take a photo of her this morning, while she was still wearing the black socks with hot pink and neon green butterflies under her gold sparkly shoes, but let me tell you, it completed the outfit!

Colin had a wrestling dual at Silver Lake Tuesday evening. As it turned out, he lost his first match by getting pinned and his second match he seemed to dominate, but ended up losing by one point. His coach was urging him to "cut him loose" - "Let him up" and I did not understand this....but apparently you get more points for another take-down then you would for keeping him down on his back. It was a strategy that I wouldn't have thought of, and I don't think Colin understood what he was told to do, after all, when you work to get someone down, you sure hate to let them back up again! It is hard to watch a kid lose by one point after the match was so tough! Next time, I bet he will understand what his coach is telling him though!

I had a doctor appointment right before the dual, so Jim went with me and we just left from there. This meant I had to ask Madison to pick up Cameron from a field trip. Madison called me at wrestling, and she was crying and told me she had a wreck. I tried to remain calm, but I was 45 minutes away! I learned that she had not looked clearly before backing up, and had just bumped into a car which was parked behind her. We are working on using phrases like "I backed into someone" or "I scratched someone's car" rather than I HAD A WRECK! As I was instructing her to either find out who the car belonged to and tell them what happened, or to leave her contact information on their windshield, and trying to calm her down, the car's owner got in it and drove away. I am thinking the 'bump' must not have been too bad? It made for an interesting evening for sure!

I am looking at our weekend, and wondering if we will survive it all! Its going to be a busy one for sure!

First Tournament/First Place

Colin wrestled in his first jr. high season tournament in Emporia today. He had a great day! He had 2 pins and a tech fault to take first place! I admit that I missed Mallory and/or Madison who are always willing to go sit on the floor and take photos for me. Taking photos from the bleachers just doesn't work well....but since I tend to get a little excited, it is best if I stay in the bleachers!

I enjoyed watching Colin and his team, and they took over all first place as a team too!

I did also appreciate that Mallory and Madison babysat today so we didn't have to take the little ones, it was sort of a long day!

Now that it is November, the countdown has started to meeting our new baby. I am more than anxious to see her little face!
