How can it be over already?

I can't believe how fast the weekend went by! We were having fun apparently! Preston went to a camp out with his friends. He got to sleep in a tent, and was excited about that. I am fairly certain he did not sleep at all, because he came home and crashed pretty hard! He also had poison ivy and needed a breathing treatment! Sounds to me like he had a great time!
He also got a package in the mail! He was pretty happy about that! Thanks Uncle Jay!

The 4-H swimming party was a huge hit! There were a lot of kids, the meeting was short, and they had snacks left over from the last concession stand. It was a fun time!

Now back to reality!

Busy or bust

Summer has a way of passing too quickly. I am not quite ready to be in fair mode yet, but we found ourselves at the fair ground clean up day! We still have a while but the grounds are clean and ready to go!

This will be Harper's first official fair and she is excited!

It was a hard working crew!

This evening, we had the rescheduled pool party for the ball teams. Several kids were busy with other things, but we had quite a few swimmers!

Preston is at a camp out, so the little girls filled in for him!

Fun Friday

I took a day off today so we could go watch the beef show at the Douglas County Fair. It is always fun to watch the cousins show, and fun to see old friends too!

Of course, you cannot JUST look at steers when you are there! This bucket head goat made us laugh.

And we took a picture of a llama because we are sure this would convince Jim that this is a needed thing we should own.

And of course I lost Quincy among the poultry! It was a fun morning!

We also had an enjoyable time people watching at lunch.

We ran home to check on the peachicks. Harper has claimed this one and is calling him Peaches!

After making sure the chicks were ok, we headed in for an afternoon of swimming! Saige has worked really hard this summer on her swimming skills.

She is even jumping off the diving board now! This is a fear she has worked through this summer!

It was a really good day off!

And more projects

Today grandma, Madison and Quincy made a little journey to Cameron, Missouri to buy some peafowl eggs. While they were gone, Saige asked if Preston could take her fishing. She wanted to catch a sunfish.

Preston was happy to take the girls fishing! They even caught a few! Saige decided that sunfish aren't all that sunny though! I was glad he was willing to take them, as I had a project at work that was almost done, and I was able to get it completed!

The trip for eggs did not go exactly as planned.

These eggs seem to have beaks and legs? Quincy now has 3 peachicks which she plans to handle every day so they are tame, and a few peafowl eggs which will go into the incubator tomorrow. Her peahen Harriet is still setting on her non-fertile nest. We aren't quite sure how to fix that.

Projects are good for the soul right?

Parties

For her birthday, Quincy really wanted Landrie and cousin Kyle to come out and they could build a fire and burn their star base shirts. Unfortunately, Kyle is on vacation, and nobody wanted to help watch a bon fire when it is literally 103 degrees. Soooo....Landrie spent a couple days here and they played, ate junk food, and hung out with goats instead! I promise she will get her fire as soon as it is bon fire weather!

We were supposed to have a swimming party for the teams that Jim coached (Preston) and Mallory coached (Quincy). I conned Madison into baking cookies! She was really tired from working early, and was showing us what she remembered from her line dancing days. Colin and I were cracking up!

The party had to be postponed due to the weather. I know the kids were a little disappointed, but we really needed the rain! Saige and Blitz are now playing a little game of "who is the neediest" while we kick back and relax!

Car trauma

Cameron has a little side job as a designated driver. Last night, in exchange for some ball park food, and a ticket to the T-bones game in KC, he offered his amazing services. He tends to go overboard a lot, and he dressed in a 3 piece suit and "chauffered" his clients to the ballgame, in 103 degree heat! He swears he was not hot, and that he was excited that he was named as the fan of the game and won some chili cheese fries.

He also got on the jumbo-tron! He drove his "clients" home safely, and texted me that he was headed home.

About 20 minutes later, he called to say he was in a wreck. He was rear ended and didn't know if he could drive his car home. Jim and I headed out after instructing him to call the police and get insurance information. By the time we got there the police were wrapping things up.

Cameron was cracking me up. He said the officer asked where he had been, and he said the ball game. The officer looked at him and said the ball game in a suit? Cameron said well yes- do you want to see the foul ball I caught? Then the officer went to inspect the damage and since Cameron's trunk was permanently open, he noticed the unicycle. Cameron said he then had to explain that he was getting senior pictures taken! I kind of wish I could hear the story when the officer re-tells it. We tied the trunk shut with Jim's belt, and since the tail lights still worked, the officer allowed us to drive it home.

Cameron's car is a mess. Our auto-body shop guy says its totalled. This was a good little car, so that is disappointing. However, we are beyond thankful that Cameron was not hurt. Cars are just stuff. We can always get more stuff!

And stuff is something that Cameron really likes. The stuff we pulled out was amusing. What kid carries around a Mark Twain bobble head doll, a sombrero, a coconut bra, pool noodles, a plastic chalice and more? Only Cameron!
