First game(s)

Preston (#50) and Quincy (#62) had their first football games last night at Wellsville.  Quincy got some action on special teams.  She even got in the stats book with a couple of tackles!

Preston's 8th grade team doesn't have a lot of kids playing, so he saw a ton of field time everywhere  - offense, defense, special teams, the kid was everywhere.
The 7th grade won their game.  The 8th grade did not fare quite as well.  I tried to mark the photos up so it was easier to tell what we are looking at.

Quincy is one of 3 girls out for jr. high football.  The other 2 are 8th graders.  Because the coaches are all men, they needed a locker room chaperone.  It worked good for me, a reason they had to send me as the bus driver!  They are pretty nice girls.  It is a good job I have!

Why not

I had to take Preston and Quincy to county 4-H council this evening.  One of the clubs in our county does a sunflower field as a fundraiser.  I asked P & Q if we could stop and see the flowers and was rewarded with an unenthusiastic “yeaaaaa why not.”   I also might have heard “what choice would we really have?”   None.  Absolutely no choice. So put on a happy face and let me take a couple of pictures.  If you cooperate, it won’t even take long!   They did cooperate.  Sort of.  In P & Q fashion anyway.  I only wish I had the little girls with us.   They would have enjoyed it!   I don’t know when we will have time to go back, and these are fading fast.

I’m glad we took the 5 minute detour!

One heck of a long week

I think it is safe to say school starting, football practices, meetings, and opening activities kicked us all in the pants this week.  The weekend, which we always use to catch up, also became a time to slow down and reclaim some brain functioning power.  A lot of changes happened.  Colin and Cameron’s absence was a topic of many conversations.  We have been looking at wedding details.  We have signed Saige up for soccer.  We have begun plans to restart religion Ed.  Summer.....I miss you!  Our weeks are busy and filled, but I feel blessed to live this life!

My parent’s neighbor took this picture of my dad.  It is such a good picture, I just wanted to save it.   You know the drill....family scrapbooking is done on the blog.

We moved here 4 years ago.  Not long after, our neighbor’s dog started hanging around.  Multiple attempts to take him home were made by us and by them.  He sort of became a member of both households.  Usually he was  found laying right smack in front of our front door.  He was an old dog, and this summer we noticed he had slowed down considerably.  Lately, we noticed a lot of other changes, and a decision was made by the neighbors to have him put to sleep. I really think it was a kind decision.  There are lots of sad people here at our house though.

We enjoyed Sunday lunch with both Colin and Cameron today.  Colin and Spencer came out for church and lunch. Cameron stopped in for a while and we went to a funeral visitation.  Not a good reason to have to come home, but an inevitable one occasionally.   It was nice to get to see them no matter what the circumstances were.   I have missed my big boys!

I told the little girls we would go to the lake today.  I had to break that promise due to blue-green algae.  Luckily, while we were at the visitation, Colin and Spencer took the kids swimming at Colin’s pool.  Everyone was happy with that arrangement!   I wish we could have stayed longer, but it’s a school night.

I am thinking this week will be easier.  The shock of scheduling and early mornings will lessen over time.  Still seeking to find joy in all our days!

Preview

It was blue/white scrimmage night.   My favorite!  Everyone playing in one place is always a welcome thing!
Preston and Quincy are playing junior high football. Preston is #50 in the 8th grade blue team.  He had a bunch of amazing plays!
Quincy is #62 on the 7th grade blue team.  She did a great job too!  Kicking a$$ and taking names.  But not numbers because jr high boys are just grody!

Nothing like a night of playing with your cousins!   Love our small town Friday nights!

The shirts

The shirt project.  I didn’t forget (thanks to Harper) and I didn’t lose the shirts!  Miraculous.

I heard lots of good things about this day.  Harper and Saige told me a lot of fun stories and things they are excited about.  Preston and Quincy told me stories of hilarious junior high awkwardness.  Mallory said she had a fantastic time with her new class.  Everyone is exhausted!

Day 1

These kids were up early, before the sun and ready to run!  It is the first day of school.  One of them was way more excited than the others!

Preston is in 8th grade, Quincy is in 7th grade, Harper is in 3rd grade with Ms. Dawson, and Saige is in 1st grade with Mrs. Kraus.  This is Mallory's first year as a teacher, and she is teaching 2nd grade!  It is amazing that she will be in the building with Harper and Saige!  I am so excited for all of them!

Today is also Cameron's first day of class at KSU.  I asked for a 1st day photo....he never disappoints his momma!  :)

It is also my first day back driving the yellow screamer.  I am happy that on this first day, everything went well and I made it in on time.  (Last year's first day I got stuck in the mud and picked up zero kids).  I don't know how happy any of the kids were to see me, but I was certainly happy to see them!  I always think the first day is fun!
I hope everyone has a great year!  We are mightily blessed!

Last day of the pool

In the summer, our lives revolve largely around pool time.  The kids love to swim!  Today was the day we all dread. The closing day. I won a pool pass this summer.  I am proud to say we definitely put it to good use.  I am pretty sure these kids would swim even if it was icy.  They wanted some last day pictures.  I am always happy to take pictures!

Last day calls for drum sticks!  I told the girls on our way home I sure did enjoy hanging out with them this summer.  And I legitimately meant it.  There is just something about summer that makes me incredibly happy.

This evening, we drove over and picked up my bus.  I guess there’s no turning back now!  Blitz loves riding in the car!  She went along to make sure the bus was up to her high standards!  It’s going to be a fun school year!  Change is always hard.  Getting on a schedule is probably needed, but not necessarily wanted.  Considering the free for all we have had this summer, I am guessing the more restrictive environment is going to be tiring!
