The halftime show was awesome

We are very proud of Cameron for being selected to participate in the Kansas high school Masonic band.  Not only just for the honor of being selected, but for giving of his time this whole week for such a great cause.
Of course, some people in this family were really excited to have a reason to go to the Shrine Bowl and check out a couple of K-State recruits.  I also think Preston had fun explaining football rules to Hayashi!
I don't know much about the game other than the East team won, but the halftime show was amazing.
It always impresses me when they can take 220 students from across the state, and in one week get them to put in a performance this great!
Good job Cameron!  (Yes he is wearing a coon skin cap under his visor).

Douglas county fair

We ran to the Douglas County fair this morning to watch the cousins show their beef steers.  They did a good job and we enjoyed watching!
Frozen lemonade....a new thing for me.  I will pass on it in the future.  And I won't be wasting money for Preston to have it either.
We all enjoyed walking around and looking at critters.

Parks

Once in a while we have to venture out to some local parks we love.  One of our favorites is Well's overlook.  Odd since I hate heights, but even the view from the low deck is amazing.  The kids went to the high decks.  None of them seemed afraid but Harper did say she didn't like it up there!
Preston and Hayashi took turns throwing their shoes off the top.  Boys are boys no matter where they are from!
The kids had fun walking the trails too.
Or at least until Preston decided he found a grave.  They were pretty done after that.

We also went by the spillway at Clinton Lake and watched the fishermen there.  They were pulling out a lot of pretty big fish!   The kids were sad there were no poles in the car! Guess we will have to go back soon!
I really like how well Hayashi has blended in with the kids.  They are getting along great and having a lot of fun together.

Lake and camp

I have a board meeting 4 times a year. Today was one of those days.  Luckily, Mallory had the day off and said she would like to take the kids for a picnic lunch and swim at the lake.  The littles had so much fun swimming the other night they were excited to go back.

This evening, we trimmed goats for the upcoming fair, and did a little work around the pens.  Hayashi has made friends with goats!  I wonder if his parents would mind if he brings one home?

Hayashi was a great help. He pitched right in and helped clean up!
He was also excited by burning some limbs.  He will be an official member of the tribe considering his love of fire.
Cameron was selected to attend Masonic Band Camp this week at Emporia State University.  He had to report today.  It is good that we drive a van because tubas tend to take up a lot of room!  I was told this camp is one that is a lot of work, that the kids love it even though they want to hate it.  I haven't heard much from Cam, but was able to see a lot of photos on facebook.  I am excited to hear all about it, and proud of Cameron for seizing this opportunity.
