More goats

We picked up a set of bottle twins for Preston and Evelyn.  Preston named his goat JW.   Evie named hers Dale Pink.  These babies are so cute!   We are already dreading selling them!   Evelyn loves the goats.  She is such a good little farmer girl!

VP

Cameron was running for student body Vice President.   The election was today and he invited us to his watch party.   We decided to make an afternoon out of it.  So we traveled to Manhattan.  We were able to walk around the KSU gardens, which will be beautiful in a few more weeks.  I wanted to see the insect zoo, but it is only open with an appointment. We ate ice cream at Call Hall.  We were so happy that it was open this time!  Also got some cheese curds.....which is pretty much a perfect day!

Last time we were in Manhattan and it was a warm day, we wanted to go to Pillsbury crossing.  It is a fun place to visit, but last time, due to covid, the police were out there patrolling and not letting people gather.   Today there weren’t many people out there and the kids were able to do a little wading, a little fishing, and some crawdad catching.

There were a lot of people at the watch party and it was fun to watch Michael and Cameron get announced as the winners of the election.  Cameron had a big fan club there cheering him on!

We all went out for dinner to celebrate.   We had stopped at Walmart earlier in the day - we bought silly string for a victory and lemons to throw if he lost.  Luckily, he got hit with silly string!   He took the lemons home to make lemonade, because that is what great leaders do!   This day has been a goal of Cameron’s for a very long time.  He has put in a lot of time and energy into his election.  He is ready to get to work to help facilitate some ideas that they have. I am so very proud of him!   I also want to give a shout out to Lauren, who has been there supporting, cheering on, helping with campaign stuff and basically being a super girlfriend during the last few weeks!

Spring break

Spring break....something we have always looked forward to, but this year is met with a little trepidation.  Last year at this time, we sent Preston off to Florida on a spring break band trip, helped Madison and Andrew move, watched as a weird new virus invaded the country and subsequently closed the schools, activities, and changed life as we knew it.  Two weeks to flatten the curve has turned into a year long nightmare of regulations, cancellations, new normal, masks, death counts, infection data, politization of public health, and currently some promise on the vaccine front.   It wasn’t all bad.  The cancellations made for a lot of family time.  We have done projects, crafted together, learned some new things, caught up on all sorts of movies and books that we had been putting off until we were less busy.   I will admit that although sometimes inconvenient, I rather enjoyed the family time.  The kids are hopeful that this spring break will end with them going back to school though.  We have been pretty lucky, with just a few weeks of going remote when basketball teams got exposed or numbers got too high, we have been able to mostly be in school.  Enter spring break. I was actually craving the break.  We have no real plans because, well covid is still a thing.  We have a few projects we are doing.  We have a few small plans, and a couple of special dinners we are making.  It will be good to rest up so we can get through the crazy spring season that is coming.
Friday was the first day off.   Madison, Mallory and Evie went to Wanego with GG to get some princess pictures done of Evelyn.  They turned out amazing. I can’t wait to see the rest!   They also ran over and had lunch with Cameron in Manhattan.  Evelyn asks me at least once a week to FaceTime Uncle Cameron. Which is why this picture makes me laugh so much!  She loves Uncle Cameron, so why does she look like sitting on his lap will give her cooties?

Hoping for a nice, quiet, fun break with my people.  Fingers crossed.

Proud mom

The younger girls and I spend our Wednesday evenings at the church in Scranton for Religion Ed.  The priest there (Father Nusi) wanted the kids to do stations of the cross on one of the weeks after class.  I was very proud of Harper, who lead the stations, and of Saige for carrying the candle and not burning anything. They did good!

Mallory rewarded the kids in her class for getting their work all completed.   They got to smash her in the face with pie.  She is a really good teacher.

Andrew has had a few late nights, or over nights at work. Mallory jumped in to help.  Last night, Madison had to work at the bar and Evie stayed at Aunt Mal’s.   She decided to give Evelyn a bath, but there were no pants in her bag.  This is called improvising.  Evie is easy going, and we are glad about it.

Happy kids and happy kids

We have missed having goats.  They are funny, friendly animals and we all enjoy them.  That being said, I did not miss kidding season, and I am very happy we didn’t have any to worry about during that polar vortex!
We picked up 3 little goats last night that will be for 4-H projects this summer.   We still need to find a goat for Preston, Evelyn and I like to tag a spare so that if a tragedy occurs we are covered!

Saige named her goat April.

Harper named hers Bungcheeks.

And Quincy named this one Murray.

We decided over lunch we would get a goat for Evelyn to show in open class.   She can’t sell it at the auction, but we can ship it and get her started as a future 4-Her.

She and Poppy have it all planned out!

She’s even willing to work for it!  :)
This is going to be a good year of 4-H fun!

So many dogs

Colin and Spencer came up for the weekend.  It was so much fun to have them here.  We finally got to meet Cash!   He is the cutest, most mellow puppy ever!   We are all in love with him! It was nice having them here!   We enjoyed a weekend of early spring weather, cooking out, playing with dogs, the boys fixed cars, Madison, Andrew, Evie and Mallory all spent time out here with their dogs as well.   Spencer pointed out that we have almost as many dogs as people now!   Cameron and Lauren didn’t come down this time, but I’m sure they will soon!   We have spring break coming soon, so we will try to  venture to Manhattan!

Sunday, the little girls and I were going to a goat auction at Linwood.  We asked Spencer if she wanted to go along.  Spencer was excited.  The auction was a flop.   They never really got started, we waited a long time!   The goats we went after were not going to work for the 4-H projects.  I also noticed a lot of the animals seemed sick.  Quincy noticed as well.  We then saw these bucket calves.  We had decided to bid on them, and that is why we waited.  Since they auction never started, we just ended up leaving.  The girls didn’t want to wait any more.  But as we were headed home, they were all disappointed.   We got Dairy Queen for lunch, so that was good.  Spencer is a good woman.  We all love her so much.  I hope a day out in redneck weirdness doesn’t cause her to break up with Colin!
And that’s how yet another weekend escaped us!
