Just for fun

There is a dad who comes to the varsity games and takes tons of pictures, and then he puts them on facebook for everyone to see.  They are really good pictures, and I wanted an easier place to save them.
Colin is number 53.  I have loved watching him get time on the varsity squad this year.  He is doing a great job, and their season is off to a great start - having 4 wins after 8 years of notsogreat.

Soccer Saturdays

Harper (above) and Quincy (below) both had games this morning.  Harper is the one with her fingers in her mouth.  Not sure she was awake enough for all that running!
Quincy (#5 with red socks) was super fast and aggressive this morning.  Her coach named her player of the game!
Mom was happy because we had a game where we weren't freezing!

Homecoming 2014

Standing at the beginning of the parade route was a very, very good idea!  Not many other kids to share candy with.  Strangely, the little girls were more interested in gathering up acorns than they were in gathering candy.
Cameron said he was going to march with the band and then sprint back a couple blocks so he could ride on the football float.
The football team won big tonight.  It was fun to watch!

It was also alumni band night.   Grandma Nancy, Mallory and Madison all came back to 'take the field again.'   It was awesome to see them all out there with Cameron.

Freshman football

Someone's grandma sweetly asked the freshman football coach if she could get him to line up the freshman team for a photo.  The coach said sure.  I took advantage!
The freshman team played at Prairie View tonight.   That was a new one.   After studying the map, consulting mapquest, looking at the school website directions, and asking the bus driver we love.....we officially decided there is no good way to get there!   We went one way, came home another.   Neither was one I could say I recommend.  I think next time the team plays there, Jim may get to go solo!

Homecoming week

It's spirit week for homecoming this week.  Today was dress for success day. Quincy was not interested in wearing a dress!
Saige was squealing because she thought Totes Magoats wanted to have a picnic.  Hard to say who was more disappointed when I shooed Totes off the deck.  I am starting to realize Totes is a giant mess!   A loveable, cute, strangely funny mess!   If there is something to climb, she will!   I guess the deck gate that Jim put up needs another board or 2!

Birds

Quincy is very proud of her hens (and Loudy the rooster).  She is especially happy now that she is getting eggs (2 per day so far).
Ryan seems to like them too.
The black chicken is Preston's. Her name is Pluto.  She is so shiny and pretty!   Quincy bought the brown hen next to her at the fair with her premium money.  Her name is Squirrel and she is Quincy's pride and joy.   Quincy thinks they are friends....I don't have the heart to tell her that the chicken is too lazy to run more than actually being friendly.
The broilers are getting big already.  They have feathers and basically lay beside the feeder and eat all day (and most if the night too).  They are kind of smelly so nobody is attached!
Except maybe the chicken girl.
And to go with the theme of birds....Madison made duck treats for Harper's preschool class.   This is 'D' week.  Harper cannot wait for tomorrow!

Monday night lights....are as exciting as Friday

Colin and Cameron both played in a JV game tonight.  Their team won big!  It was a lot of fun to watch!  Harper met a new friend who has the same shoes as her.  I am sure it will be a lifetime friendship! 😃

Some kinda crazy

It's been a real marathon of a weekend.  Friday night, the football team won for the 3rd straight week!   I failed to take photos of Colin playing football (as a freshman, Cam has been keeping the varsity stats). I did get a few shots of the marching band though.  Cameron seems to be enjoying band and I have not heard the complaints about cold mornings and wet grass that I used to hear from his older sisters!
Mallory came home for a visit and went to the game with us.  She said it felt weird to not be performing in the halftime shows!
Saturday Cameron attended Washburn university band day.  He said that despite getting a shirt and a free hotdog, he is not a fan of Washburn.  He also said their tuba section was no fun.
While he was having no fun with the Washburn tuba players, Colin and I were working parking cars at a car show in Ottawa for Cameron's CWF trip.   We were not having all that much fun either!  People seemed rather grouchy this year! At least it didn't rain!
Jim was on soccer duty, as this was the first week of games for Quincy and Harper.  Jim forgot to take any photos, but that is ok because we have a few more weeks to go!   Harper's team won their game.  Quincy's team did not win, but she did tell me she is sure she is the best player.  And she is so humble too!

Today, Cameron attended his confirmation retreat.   He said it was fun but he came home with his jean seams duct taped together.  Apparently during one of the games, he ripped his whole crotch out of his jeans.  He said he stood up and said 'today I thank God I remembered to wear underwear.'   Everyone told me he was the funniest kid there.  Yes, we are raising 'that' kid!

I attended a meeting to try to help the new 4-H leaders with the year end papers.  It was very time consuming but I felt like I learned a lot.
At this point, I am ready to go back to work so I can sit for a while in the peace and quiet!

Just a few random happenings

A man from our church invited us over to pick apples.  I was excited, but my picking buddy Cameron didn't seem to share my enthusiasm!
My peeling buddy was a little more into the project, as he is able to think future apple pies.
We tried something new this year and canned apple pie filling.  As recipes go, this is about as easy as canning ever gets.   On a messiness factor though, I can say I have rarely ever had to spend that kind of time cleaning up before!
Mallory had a little bit of car truma over the weekend, which meant she was home for an extended weekend. The little girls were thrilled to have the softhearted one here to swing them!
Everyone should have a favorite goat....mine is Buttee. She is sweet, gentle, cute and extremely tolerant of Saige.
I might like her more than the dog.  Flashy is growing up!  He is not a bad dog but he has a bit of a taste for chicken....which makes him a mortal enemy of the chicken girl.  He also cost Jim an entire weekend in revamping the chicken pen!  So far, Jim's newly improved pen seems to be working!
And as far as the farm critters go, nobody is as sweet as our watchcow Ryan.  He loves for us to scratch his chin and brisket!
