Today was a crazy day, but we had an appointment to buy some goats, and we made it work. Why is Harper dressed so fancy to wrangle goats? Well, because she had state band, and had to be picked up about 20 minutes before we had to meet the goat woman. No time for changing, no time for worrying about it. We were able to buy 3 does tonight. This one will be Harper's 4-H market goat project for this year. Her ears got a little bit frost bitten, but you don't eat the ears, so I do not see it will be a problem. Harper is still working on a name for her goat. We also bought her this one's twin sister, and they are going to be difficult to tell apart, except for the ear injuries, which are really minimal, I was struggling to figure out how they were different. The twin that Harper didn't chose, will be Wrenley's first goat. We are attempting to build them up a little herd of their own. Evelyn has 3 goats now, and she is so excited about it! I hope it will be a good way to help them get started in 4-H, and maybe contribute to buying thier first cars someday.
Saige picked this little girl. She wanted to name her James Cook, after her favorite football player, but then I reminded her the goat is a doe - so her name is Jamie Cook. Probably I will only call her Jamie. She is a little less dramatic than the twins, and she seems a little bit friendlier as well. We have put them in the small pen so we can work on taming them down for a couple of weeks before we put them in a bigger pen.
We are excited to get this year's market goat project going!
