My office is in the front part of a building owned by a couple of very nice men. One of the men was my old maintenance person, and we have become pretty good friends. Actually, I really like both of them. They are great landlords, and good people. My office space is in the front of the building, and in the back, they have a pretty large storage room. I have access to the storage room, but rarely go back in there. A few weeks ago, however, I could hear a lot of noise coming from the back room, and then I discovered that the roof was leaking pretty severely. I called and told them, and I went back with every container I could find to try to catch some of the dripping. As I was digging around in their area, looking for more buckets, I happened to run across this elephant plant stand. And I became almost obsessed with it. I occasionally opened the door to see if it was as amazing as I remembered. And it was! And every time I saw it, I got a little more attached in some weird way. I kept thinking how it matched my lamp, and how much I wanted it in my living room. Today, the landlords stopped in the office. They told me they were going to unload a few things and that they are planning to set everything in the back room out this weekend for a garage sale. I couldn't stand it. I told them I happened to notice this elephant, and I wondered if they were selling it? They both started laughing. Yes! It was going on the sale. I asked if I could buy it. They said no - but you can have it! I refused to take it for free, so they told me they would take $5 for it. Deal!!! I was so excited! I could hardly stand it!
Knowing I had to come back into the office tonight for a township meeting, I left it behind, so I didn't have to take it on the bus.
When my meeting was over, I picked it up from behind the desk. And that is when it started. The township boys were full of it. What IS THAT? Where on earth did you get that? What are you going to DO with it? DOES JIM KNOW YOU BOUGHT THAT THING? Men! I swear - zero vision!
I calmly explained that I got it from the landlords, that I thought it was the coolest plant stand I have ever seen, and that I work for a living, so I don't need to ask Jim permission to buy a cool thing with MY money! They hooted and hollered and laughed it up. And so did I! Because I know my Jim. I honestly don't think he will care one way or another about my amazing find. Heck, unless I point it out, I doubt he would even notice it. Plus, he likes weird stuff, even if he won't admit it. Plus, the deal is made, no turning back now! I'm not sure where I am going to put it, but it looks pretty good under Jim's giant tv. I don't think I can put a plant on it, due to our cats being jerks, but I will figure out something! I am definitely not sorry!
During my meeting, I had a text from Madison pointing out that my neighbor was giving away some free apple trees. So I stopped on my way home and picked those up as well. A car load of treasures! I got home too late to plant them, but I am pretty excited about this as well! My orchard is shaping up nicely! Jim was already in bed when I got home. I can't wait to tell him in the morning. I doubt he will be as excited about it as I was, but I am hoping he has some idea of where I should plant them! Left to my own devices, I am probably going to end up saying yes, and causing more work. :)
Cameron sent me some more photos from the little excursion to OKC. I love these!
And Preston's attempt at playing an air banjo outside of the banjo museum.
Carlos is starting to warm up to Maude. They are even starting to play together more! She is really fitting in well around here, and has such a sweet demeanor. Potty training - ?? Well...that isn't going really well at this point, but I think it is because she is just so busy. She has to sniff everything, chase the cats, grab a shoe, play with her toys, and chase Carlos and Ollie around. Someday, she will get there! :)
