A little punkin pickin'

If you have an October day off school, you are required to go visit Schaake's!  The kids love it there!  

So do I!  So much fun!  We were a little worried because of the chances of rain, but it ended up being fine.  We did not get wet, it wasn't overly muddy, and the dust was settled.  

I have always told the kids they can get whatever pumpkin they want, but they have to carry it themselves.  They must be getting bigger, because today we had 79 pounds of pumpkin!  

I know Cameron has grown, but I  thinking their sign might be a little bit off? 

I always know where to find Quincy!  Flocking with her friends!  

It was a great way to spend a morning off!

Happy Birthday Preston

My "baby boy" turned 11 years old today!

He has been a blessing since he came into our family.  Every single day we are thankful for him!  Preston is smart, sweet, considerate and sensitive.  

He didn't ask for much for his birthday.  He is an old soul.  Sometimes I feel like I  talking to an 80 year old man instead of a 5th grader.  

I hope he enjoyed his day!  I love you buddy boy.  Happy birthday!  

Football, friends, fires and fun

Colin had a game at Bishop Ward last night.  SFT won.   Since Colin was only released to play after his injuries on Thursday, we didn't think he would play much. He did play quite a bit, and at one point was even in on offfense.  

It is always nice to win. 

This morning, Preston had a game.  He had quite a fan club there.  Both of his grandmas, as well as Uncle Gary and Aunt Wanda were there to cheer him on. Of course, the little girls were pretty sure everyone came to see them act like goofballs.  

I hate when kids get hurt on the field.  I do think it is a neat tribute when the boys take a knee during a medical issue timeout though.  

Preston played well but they didn't win. 

After lunch, Quincy, Harper and Saige took a road trip with grandma to pick up take 2 of project peacock.  This time, they are used to being handled and we got smart and put a cover on their pen!   Hoping for  much better results this time.  I am also holding out a small hope that they may call Jerry out of the woods!  

This evening, Preston asked if he could have his regular gang over for a little birthday party.  These are 4 really good boys.  They play well together and they are pretty funny.  Preston wanted a bonfire and roasted foods.  

They seem like they are having a great time, and I feel blessed that our kids have nice friends. 

They even did a good job of including the little girls. Preston stopped in the kitchen after we ate to tell me thank you for letting him have a party with friends.  He is the sweetest kid ever.  I truly don't mind the extra kids around and I know he won't always want a roasting party here at home so I am soaking up the memories. 

I love this time of year!  

And yes, blitz is spoiled.   Rotten.  

Concert girls

Madison took Quincy to her first concert tonight.  Since it is country music, it is fairly foreign to me, but they were pretty excited about seeing some Derius someone in Topeka tonight.  I just hope they keep their clothes on! 

They say it's my birthday....

It has been a real adventure around here lately. I was hoping that my "28th" birthday could be a low key affair but that just isn't in the cards for this year.  

 Saige had story time and was super duper excited about her trip to the fire station.  She even got to see how they turn on the lights and try on their equipment.  I had to force her to lose the hat for "church school" this evening.  She and I had lunch with Jim because Jim had city council this evening.  When we left to go errand running she cried because she thought Jim was coming with us.  It has been a long time since a kid cried that hard in my car.  It did not make for a nice enjoyable ride into Lawrence.  

Mallory helped me by taking the girls to religion Ed so I could take Preston to his footbm practice and then help with Cameron's band on the run fundraiser.  The band kids get pledges and then they run as many laps as they can in an hour. Cameron did a pretty good job of getting sponsors and he ran 25 laps in his hour.  

On the way, he insisted I stop at city hall. He said UPS had delivered a package he had to have in order to run.  It was this hair hat.  Yea, I got nothing.  

It was a fun event and he did have a lot of success so I will just choose to focus on that.  

While most of us were out at various events, Madison and Colin were at home.  They surprised me by cleaning.  Madison also made me mammo-grams because she is a smart aleck, and a nice cake.  

Overall, I had a great, albeit busy birthday.  I am thankful for this past year and looking forward to seeing what the next one brings.
