Weekend stuff

Preston had a game yesterday morning.  Quincy took pictures again. She got some great shots of Preston. She also took several weird photos of her sisters, police officers, random strangers, close ups of grass, and a couple of herself.  

Preston made some awesome plays yesterday but their team didn't win.  

Quincy also took a photo of the incredibly attractive flag man.  

Last evening, Cameron's band performed in the Carbondale fun fest parade.  Quincy and Preston went fishing with some friends from church, so Harper, Saige and I went to watch!  The girls got a ton of candy!  

Cameron is rocking the drum major role!  I am impressed with how well he handles everything he has taken on.  Also, the band sounded great!  

After everything was finished for the day, we all sat down to watch TV.  Blitz came in to sit with us and we got a huge kick out of the neighbor's dog peeking in to see if his friend could come out to play.  

After mass this morning, I sent the girls down to do chores.  Harper came in to get me because she discovered a "surprise" for me.  Where the hog pen used to sit, were a couple of volunteer tomato vines covered in tomatos!  What a great find!   I guess the pig wasn't eating all of the stuff I gave him!  

There were a couple of red ones, but they had holes in them which means that the chickens had a little treat!  I hope the others ripen so I can make salsa!  

Blitz is a good girl.  She watches over everything around here.  

These girls love their chickens.  This one has been living in the garage because she was the one survivor from some that Quincy's bff bought.  We were trying to keep her safe.  Today we tried to put her in with the other half grown chickens, but after about 2 minutes she escaped!  She looks pretty rough as she is growing out of her fluff and into her feathers!  

This week, I will be starting on my first official bus driving job. I will be subbing for a couple of weeks.  The kids were all saying how weird it is to look out and see a bus.  To me, it seems completely normal!

It was "E" week at preschool.  Saige informed me that so far, "e" is the most boring letter. I love this elephant she made!  Preschool crafts are the best!  

Cameron is really a busy kid. He is the president of the FBLA this year.  As such, he had to give a presentation to the jr high to inform them of what FBLA is and try to persuade them to join.  I am very proud of the leadership roles he has taken on.  

The band performed some songs from "The Little Mermaid" tonight.  They sounded good and Cameron did a great job as drum major! 

Aaah nuts!

A lady who works with Jim told him about a place in Lawrence where you can sell black walnuts.  We have a ton this year.  The kids decided it would be easy to make a little money!  So we gathered up every bucket we could find and filled them up!  It honestly didn't take very long and since I had to have a tooth pulled today in Lawrence, I agreed to sell the nuts for the kids.  Quincy was disappointed that I would not let her take the day off school to go with me!  

Saige and I enjoyed watching this machine hull the walnuts.  I think we will make a return trip (on a day off school) and let the kids watch!  We had 97 pounds of walnuts today!  There are a lot more where those came from!  

Saige is more excited about playing with the kitten who I named "Stupid Dummy" than she is in picking up walnuts.  I  am letting her play with this poor cat because I don't believe he will have a very long lifespan. Seriously the dumbest cat I have ever seen!   Sweet though!  He runs toward the vehicle when you start it!  

A good meeting

The 4-H had installation of their new officer team. I have to say that Cameron did a great job of managing the meeting and the whole thing was over in half an hour.   That has to be a record!  

The half hour included a demonstration on milking dairy goats.  Quincy is extremely interested in goat milking.  She wants it to be her new project.  I have flashbacks to milking cows and am just not sure she understands the commitment she would be taking on.  

She got to milk a goat tonight and is more in love than ever with the idea.  My next step is buying some goat milk from this family later this week and making goat cheese.  I figure if she wants to try it she should know what she is getting herself into!  

We had a little kitty incident today.  The kitten took a ride to my office on the engine of the van.  Luckily, he seems to be unharmed from this little adventure.  He had to hang out at my office.  Harper was with me today because she had a fever.  I am glad she was there to help keep him entertained.  

Harper has a fever, but no other symptoms. I don't know what kind of virus she has, but she is sort of miserable.  I hope she feels better soon!  Slice seemed concerned and didn't leave her while she was sleeping today.  He's such a sweet kitty!
