That’s the end.

Preston played his final game of the season last night at Iola.  His team won and since I got to drive them, I made it in time to watch!   Geez Iola is a long drive!
Preston is a good player.  He knows the plays, stays in position and he is quick and hustles.  He didn’t have much fun this season.   I would be lying if I said I didn’t know why.  And since this is my blog, and I can say what I want, I will place the blame squarely on the coaching staff.   I’m never going to tell you that my kids are the best players on the team. They aren’t.  But they are good.  I watched this happen with Cameron, and now with Preston. This coach takes kids who are good and when he is done with them, they believe they are terrible.   They have no confidence left, and no desire to ever touch a basketball again.  I am not the only one who sees this, not the only one who has a child who has experienced it.  I’m not angry, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed.   Unfortunately, the complaints have fallen on deaf ears.   I believe this will be Preston’s last high school game.  And it’s ok.  He will be successful in his life, and overall that is what is the most important.

And now, winter sports are all done and we move forward into new and different places to run.

Winding down, gearing up

This is a week where we meet ourselves coming and going.  A week where I feel blessed to have a spouse who helps me with getting the stuff covered.   I am also thankful for one who is ok with text and brief conversations.

I am also thankful that I get to spend my days with this little girl, and that she is extremely mellow.   She’s my best girl.

This is the last week of Preston’s basketball season.  There will be sub-state next week, but Preston plays JV, so he will be wrapping things up.  Last night, he played at Anderson County.  He had a good game, and his team did win. I enjoyed going!

Quincy is done with wrestling, but has been going to practice to help a girl who is an alternate for state.   Tonight, Jim attended the parent meeting for spring sports.  Last spring (and into the summer), as everything was cancelled, I continually checked my calendar, and felt like I was missing something.  That is because this is our life. Always going.  Always.   And I love this life, and our family.

Need more weekends in my life.

We finally made it to the weekend.  Although the kids only had 2 days of school last week due to the polar vortex storm, it felt like an incredibly long, never ending week.  I personally was thrilled to see a Saturday as well as a day above freezing!   It didn’t work out as well for Jim, who had to deal with yet another waterline break. This week was brutal for his work.  We barely saw him, and when we did he was often on the phone, taking more reports of breaks and water issues.  I felt bad for him, but all we could do was keep the home stuff in order, and keep him fed so he could go back out there again.  Here’s hoping this week is so much better for everyone.
Preston had a make up game Saturday afternoon against Burlington.  It was not a game that ended well for his team, but I am personally glad they chose to make it up on the weekend, because the upcoming week is already filling up fast!   Preston is 10 in white.

After Preston’s game, we baby sat for Mallory’s dogs since she was in a personal development conference.  We are all in love  with Daisy Paige. She is a mess of a dog, and she was sooooo happy to see us!

Lauren sent me a little update from their neck of the woods, including some cute pictures of Bella.  She may be Lauren’s dog, but I think Cameron likes her!

Bella is also helping Cameron with his student body vice presidential campaign.  I mean who wouldn’t vote for someone with a spokesmodel who looks this cute?

With it being so cold, Andrew’s classes were cancelled a lot this week, which meant we didn’t get to have as much time with Evelyn.   When we did have her, she amused us with her dancing skills, and her sassiness.  She is growing up so fast!

Sub-state

Quincy had her sub-state wrestling tournament today in Garnett.  I was at work when my boss texted to see if I wanted to go.  He said he had a substitute for me if I did.  I could not let that opportunity pass by!   I was excited to watch Quincy and her team!   Quincy went 0-2 for the day and doesn’t qualify for state next week.  She wrestled hard.  She has improved so much this session.

In her second match, she was winning 9-0.  She absolutely dominated this girl. But then she made a wrong move and got pinned.  It was a hard loss.
Quincy’s wrestling season is over for this year.  She had a really good time, learned a lot, worked really hard, made some new friends and can’t wait til next time!  We are so very proud of her!

Back to school kiddies

The kids haven’t been to school all week.  This actually worked out ok, because Preston had an appointment Wednesday morning for a root canal in Lawrence.  Jim had been at work until literally 2:00 am because of multiple water line breaks, and then got up and went back at 5.   Usually, I would have had to drive the bus,and  getting him there would have been a nightmare, but school was cancelled.  Side note- the city water line issues have been brutal.  Jim has been at work for literally 45 of the last 48 hours.  There have been multiple breaks and it has been nightmarish.  The kids all have to go back to school today except for Saige because Overbrook still has water lines broken, a boil advisory for the parts restored and so going to school is not happening.  She is remote again.
Anyway, my original thought was that Preston and I had to hit the road yesterday morning early because the roads were craptastic.  We took the back roads to Lawrence, which takes us over the back side of Clinton Lake.  The lake is completely frozen over.  In my life, I have never seen this.  I have seen it frozen around the edges, but never clear across the lake.  It’s been cold ladies and gentlemen!   I forced Preston to take pictures because I left my phone at home!

Preston’s procedure went well.  He is having minimal pain.  We have all missed Evelyn.  I hope this weather goes back north  where it belongs.
