This weekend was over in the blink of an eye! Holy Cow! That was so fast!
Jim and I ran to KC on Saturday morning to help Cameron move into a smaller apartment, and back to Kansas! The new apartment is nice, it is right beside the complex pool, has a nice picnic area right off of his patio, and we met several of his new neighbors who also seemed nice. I hope he will be very happy there!
I get very amused with Cameron, and the way he goes about things. Jim and I fully expected to help this kid move. Heck, I even wore actual shoes - because he lived in a basement apartment and I figured it would be better for carrying stuff up the stairs! NO! When we got there, he had all of the stuff he wanted us to move in the truck sitting outside on the sidewalk and was sitting on his couch waiting for us. Absolute easiest move ever! The hardest part was securing everything down with the ratchet straps. Seriously....did I miss a class on how to work those things? Am I not smart enough? Or are they unnecessarily difficult to use?
And I know it makes me seem like a total dork, but driving Jim's old beat up truck, tied down with a bunch of furniture in various conformity, through a pretty nice neighborhood also had me cracking up. It reminded me of The Beverly Hillbillies.
It is no secret that Cameron makes me laugh. I think he is the one of our children who is the most like me sense of humor wise. You know - smart a$$y. Although Grace told me this morning that she thinks Cameron is a hilarious blend of Jim and my senses of humor. Anyhow, I took Cameron's tables to him that I had painted. I had previously decided to get him a funny lamp for the end table. Because if you have an end table - you have to have a lamp too, right? So, I googled "funky lamps" and omg - I cannot do justice to the number of choices I had. And I laughed way too hard at quite a few of them. And I could not decide which one was the funniest. I did a little texting poll. Some of my friends, and Jim, got a text asking which lamp. Overwhelmingly, they picked the Sasquatch lamp. And so I decided to order it. Except that I realized it was only 6 inches tall, and that really isn't a lamp, it is more of a nightlight. I then googled Sasquatch lamps, and let me tell you, I was laughing so hard I cried. After ordering him the perfect lamp, I realized there was one of those buttons you can click "people who bought this were also interested in...." Which is where I ran across this metal bathroom sign - of Sasquatch sitting on the toilet looking at his cell phone. I died! Add to cart now! Never have I needed a housewarming gift more! Cameron did think it was funny, and he thought it was funny that GG sent him Sasquatch soap and lip balm (because - hello! we know how to follow a theme). He also thought it was funny when I told him that the lamp is stuck in customs! Dang the luck!
We did not take long at all to get Cameron's furniture moved, and then we met Grace for lunch. Jim said he would buy all of our lunches if we could go to Haywards BBQ. He said he used to eat there and he wanted to see if it was as good as he remembered. It really was good, but I was skeptical when we pulled in at noon on a Saturday and the place was mostly empty. Jim was happy, because it was good food. I was happy because I got to see Grace for a bit, and we were all happy that we didn't have to wait to eat! Grace even did a little hand sewing revision on the dress that Harper picked out for the wedding! We also drug Cameron to Sam's club, but he won't let us buy him much in the way of groceries. I did get him to try these Luigi's Italian Ice things that Jim and I are addicted to, and he did text me later to tell me that he enjoyed them.
Harper spent the weekend cat sitting for my old boss, Terri. When I worked for Terri, she used to tell people "the only good cat is a dead cat!' Apparently she changed her mind in a big way. Not only did she pay Harper to stay all weekend with her cat, but the cat has a routine, eats special food and treats, and gets taken for walks in a cat stroller. No, I am not making this up! Harper was happy to oblige, and she made a pretty good chunk of change so I would guess if Terri needs her again, she would happily go back!
Of course, we have no room to talk. UPS delivered new dog beds for all of our dogs this weekend. Maude is especially appreciative. She was just not meant for floor laying! :)
I spent most of Sunday at my last weekend shift at the liquor store. Jim got the mower running again and started the mowing. Since we got some rain, you can actually see the grass growing! So I appreciate having the mower back!
I came home and canned the rest of the applesauce that I had left cooking in the crockpot. That is a wrap on the apples. I only did applesauce, hot cinnamon applesauce and apple butter. I have enough of all of it to last for a very long time. I am happy to get that little project finished! The next 3 weeks are going to be absolutely insane, with a short vacation, Preston changing apartments, and then moving back to Kansas, the wedding, the fair, a date to butcher our meat birds, back to school shopping, and then back to bus driving/school. It is going to be so much fun, but I am already tired from the planning/strategizing.
