Little disappointments in life.

Cameron did not win state FBLA president. He is a little disappointed. He did however, qualify for the national contest in Anaheim later in the summer! (Oh goody! more fundraising!!!). He was one of 7 kids from his chapter to qualify.
He doesn't want to talk about the loss yet.....he is understandably not pleased. I will say I am incredibly proud of him. Putting yourself out there, publicly announcing all your ideas, and being open to having your ideas criticized are not easy things. Taking the chance impresses me.

In our district, 5th graders attend Starbase for their field trip. It is 5 days of science at Forbes field. For whatever reason, All of our kids hate this field trip. Quincy has been dreading it for weeks because the older kids all told her how "awful" it is. She goes for 5 Thursdays in a row, and the first day was this week. She begged to stay home. She was absolutely grumpy about it. I gave her the standard mom lecture about things being what you make of them. And to please go in with a good attitude and try to learn something. She came home Thursday and told me "mom I DID learn something today!" I said oh yeah? That's awesome! What was it? She responded with "star base was just as awful as I thought it was going to be.....!!!" Gonna be a long month I fear!

Go time

Today was the day to set up the campaign booth at the state FBLA conference. All the art work that we have been working on, all the planning and ideas coming together was fun to see! Luckily the state conference is in Topeka, so that is extremely convenient! I ran up to help him set up when I got done with the bus route.

Cameron and I were both pleased with it. I was surprised at how many kids had professional grade vinyl banners and booths set up! I said something to Cameron about it, and he told me he is running a campaign based on ideas and goals and believes that is the best way to win.

One thing I noticed was how many people Cameron legitimately knew! Tons of kids, and adults from all over the state. He was not only visiting with them and knew what things they were Involved with, but he was telling me where they were from, and how he knew them. He seems to know everyone!

Cameron and his advisor Connie Lindell took a moment to pose in Kelsey's photo booth. Kelsey is from Santa Fe trail and is running for state secretary. She is a good friend of Cameron's.
Connie Lindell was my FBLA advisor when I was in high school. She also was my typing teacher (and I am told they don't teach a typing class any more!). She loves Cameron and has been a great influence on him. She is also retiring at the end of this school year. We are sad and tried to talk her into staying for Cam's senior year. She says she's just ready and it's time. We will miss her for sure!

Kidding completion

We had almost given up on Totes having her baby or babies. The other babies were born weeks back. She finally had one baby this morning when the kids and I did chores before school.

Before I left for work, I sent Cameron down to check on her one more time. Unfortunately, she had 2 more babies but both were stillborn. It was not our best day.
We are thankful that one baby seems to be up, and healthy. I want to name her Gerty. Cameron has not consented. She is very cute! Momma goat seems to be up and doing well.

That's all folks

Well, spring break is officially over. We ended up accomplishing a lot of small projects, had fun as a family, and basically enjoyed a small amount of down time.

I didn't take a lot of photos, there wasn't much to photograph. The younger kids and I enjoyed making homemade pizza and strawberry shortcake on Friday. Since it is lent, we made cheese and vegetable pizza. They had a great time and worked together so well!
Colin went to Tablerock with friends, but was back for this weekend. Madison kept him happy by cooking all sorts of amazing foods!

The kids are sad to have to get back on schedule. Actually, I am sad about the schedule too, but knowing there is only 7 weeks until summer break makes it feel better!

Fun?

We have spent spring break taking care of a few things such as dentist appointments, shoe shopping, grocery shopping and fence building. It all needed to get done, but I am not sure if it qualifies as fun!
The girls were pretty pumped about new shoes though! Retail therapy is always good!

Cameron is gearing up for the state FBLA conference next week. He has to have a booth promoting his candidacy for president. His theme is "Camdyland" we have been working on the art for it. It has been fun so far. It's good that mallory and I enjoy a little coloring! Now if we can get the glitter dried he will be in business!

Cute little cows and a spoiled dog

Grandma has a couple of bucket calves she is feeding. The girls have been wanting to go over and "help" with them. Mallory took them this afternoon. They came home squealing with joy over how cute they are!

While they were gone, I took Blitz to her vet. She was super happy to go on a car ride, but taking her to the vet is a pathetic show of her utter wimpiness. I love this dog, and am especially happy that she is good with the kids, extremely good with the animals, kind hearted and fairly well mannered. I have zero delusions of her ability to save our lives in a critical situation. Every man, woman and dog for them self!

Spring Break 2017

Spring break is here. We started with a bit of stomach flu, but things are better now!
Today we have been building a new pen for yearling goats, and enjoying the 80+ degree beautiful weather!

The kids had fun watching our neighbor burn brush and watching the guys on 4 wheelers, and pump trucks keep it under control! It's frightening how fast living red cedar trees burn to nothing!

Our neighbor also offered to use his tractor to till up a garden. I was thrilled, as I was not sure we could get our tiller running! He worked in exchange he for eggs, which we have plenty of! :)

Blitz was incredibly helpful with this project! We will be putting potatoes in stackers again, as this is so easy! As for the rest, we will be using the birthing pen bedding to mulch it out and have it ready for plants in a couple of weeks! The kids are excited about gardening (except for Preston- he doesn't know why anyone wastes their time growing vegetables!). Maybe this fall when he's eating spaghetti sauce and salsa he will be happy for the work he's going to put in!

Colin is home, but will be leaving for a trip to Tablerock. The rest of us have plans, but nothing quite as exciting. Finishing some projects and having some fun as a family are on the agenda!

Just life

We somehow went from record breaking warm and early season tornados to frigid cold and snow. Life in Kansas keeps you guessing for sure!
Saturday, on the way home from church, I commented on how neat the snow looked on the trees in our driveway. I stopped and tried to get some pictures. The kids were not in optimal picture taking mode I guess. The snow still looked neat.

I had to work at the high school's play this weekend serving food. When I was leaving I asked the kids to clean up. Saige decided that piling everything on top of Cameron was the way to handle this task. I asked her why and she responded "because Cameron was really cold!" Well of course he was.

We had a lot going on Saturday, so I had been looking forward to vegging out with a movie when I finally got home. Around 9, a friend called to say their doe was kidding and seemed to be having problems. Quincy and I got dressed and made a goat midwife call. The doe did have some trouble, and had to have some intervention. All ended well with one big baby on the ground! Honestly, I enjoyed it. What's losing a little sleep in comparison to getting to witness such an amazing thing.

Preston went to a birthday party for one of his friends. They stayed up all night and he was a bit tired on Sunday! He had a great time! I get a kick out of these boys....always having a poker or Madden tournament.

Monday night, Harper was on the books for giving a part of the program at 4-H. She was very nervous. I set the expectation that she could to do something easy and short but that she had to get up there. She brought her pet project - Cupcake the cat. She told them literally "this is my cat Cupcake, she is a domestic longhair. " Worlds shortest project talk. But I am seriously very proud of her for getting up there. She is an incredibly shy kid. Next time will be easier.

Good times

Saige had her friend over to play one afternoon this week. The friend was not impressed with any of the goats! Her face in this photo is a pretty good summation. I told her mom I didn't think they would need to worry about her running off with a farmer!
The goat in the photo is Cameron's baby. Cameron named him Mr. Gutenberg. He wants us to pronounce it with a German accent. Why do you name a goat after the person who invented the printing press? Do you really want to know? I have stopped asking.

Cameron was a page for Senator Hensley this week. He had the best time! This is the stuff Cameron loves! When he sent me the above photo I was at work. I texted back and asked him if he was supposed to be sitting there. He texted back "most likely not!"
Cameron also said he found it annoying that this is the 3rd time he has met Sammy B. And he is still asking him where he goes to school!
