4th of July Weekend

We started out the holiday weekend with Mallory and Madison having a goodbye party for one of their friends. Meredith has been their best friend since kindergarten, and is now moving with her family to Virginia. The girls are really sad to see her go, but we know that since the world is not as big as it once was, they will have an easy time staying in touch with her! Jim and I were a bit surprised when one of their friends showed up dressed as a fox, but she seemed to be housebroken, so we let her stay! We also managed to attract a couple of teen aged boys who were in town for the weekend, but they were not allowed to stay! Luckily, Jim is really mean looking!

Cameron, Colin and Quincy were in the Overbrook bike parade. Quincy's Harley died halfway through, so Colin was nice enough to push her on his bike for the rest of the parade. (He really can be a good big brother!)

After the bike parade, and returning the extra kids to their own homes, we attended my grandma's annual 4th of July bash. If you are measuring the amount of fun that was had by the amount of dirt that the kids drug home on their bodies, then I would say that they had a super great time! I enjoyed visiting with my cousins, most of whom I only see once a year!

Today we had planned to go to Bev's (our wonderful next door neighbor) house for her annual big party. However, when we got home from church it seemed that Harper had just had enough for this weekend. She was running a low fever and was exceptionally fussy. I don't know what was wrong with her except that she just wasn't feeling good. She seems much better tonight. I took the kids and bought them some more fireworks (after all this is the 2nd greatest holiday - when else can kids play with fire and not get into trouble for it?). We lit a few fireworks and spent time as a family. Cameron stood over the top of some sort of a jumping bumble bee and torched his armpit. It burned up the nylon shirt he had on...he wasn't seriously hurt (thank God) and Jim has agreed to stop calling him Burny.

We had planned to attend the city's big fireworks display, free hotdogs and homemade ice cream in the park this evening, but rain has postponed it until tomorrow. I guess that is ok, a great holiday should be spread over several days!
