Today we attended the Kansas Teacher of the year nominees banquet. They named finalists who were nominated by their school districts to move onward toward being named Kansas teacher of the year. Mallory was named by our district as our teacher of the year, and as such, she was nominated for this honor. It was a nice banquet, and we had fun listening to bios from a whole lot of amazing teachers within our state. Mallory was not named as a finalist, however we are so proud of her. Teaching is hard. People are leaving right and left. It is hard to keep funding. It is hard to deal with some of the behaviors. It is hard to feel like you are making a difference when you spend your days wrestling alligators. It is not something I think you can even understand unless you are rump deep in it. But Mallory truly loves her job. She loves the kids, and seeing them succeed. She deals with the behaviors with knowledge that it is a symptom of a bigger problem sometimes. She gets angry about things that happen, and she has shed more tears than I care to think about. But she loves what she does, and she does it well. She might not be advancing, but she is a champion in our books. Congrats Mallory- dad and I are so proud of you.
