Yesterday was a weird one. Starting with a 9 am school alert text that they had evacuated the Carbondale school due to a fire. Or smoke in the hallway. Now, that is Saige’s school, but she was out on a field trip, so I knew she was ok. After a couple of hours, a second school text that it was all clear and that since the 7th grade was gone they were able to shift classrooms around and continue with their educational day. It is a week until school is out, they quit doing actually educational things days ago, but I digress.
In the afternoon, I received yet another school alert text, this time telling me to check my email (which I find incredibly annoying). The email said that the fire was a result of a child catching toilet paper on fire and putting it in a trash can. It went on to say they will be pressing charges and this is serious and they won’t tolerate it. Ok. Yes it is a serious thing when you light your school on fire….or try to. Still, it seems like a parenting issue to me - who does that?
As we were eating dinner last night, I was talking to the girls. They were saying it is a tik tok trend. I said well that may be, but you girls know we don’t want you to light your school on fire right? Harper gave me the patented Jim scowl and said “well yea- we aren’t freaking stupid?” Ok. Problem solved. Guess it goes without saying. Except for some reason, does it? The society we are living in currently? I feel like maybe we need to say it. Out loud. “We don’t want you to light your school, or anyplace on fire.” We aren’t burning anything down on purpose. Common sense is gone, breaking the law seems to be the norm and I’m sorry, but we are going to have to keep saying it. Out loud for the ones in the back. Screaming it for the ones who don’t seem to understand that burning your school down isn’t a neat thing to do.
Particularly if that school is your only safe space. I’m glad nobody was hurt.
Me too Carlos. Me too.
In other news, Evie brought a cute mushroom house for our fairy garden. I think it is adorable. Now if I can keep Ollie from plodding through and knocking everything around! He doesn’t seem to be able to see it!
And we started in on the pool. (Can’t let the grandkids down). This is what we are working with. Yes, it looks bad. But truly, it isn’t. We got most of the debris out last night. Jim is working on putting some silicone on a leak in the filter. We will finish refilling (topping off) tonight and we will be close to ready to chemically treat, and start filtering. We have dealt with worse in the past. I am more than ready for pool time!
As soon as the pool is running, I am onto my patio oasis project. Got my work cut out for me down there!
