last day and other shenanigans

Today is Saige's last day of 7th grade.  I wanted to take last day photos, but didn't ask soon enough.  Saige told me she wasn't feeling well, and didn't want to mess with it this morning while we were waiting on the bus.  So I am using this photo she sent me a couple days ago.  She apparently had to sit by someone on the bus who forgot their deodorant.  She texted me to tell me that I should tell them they stink.  She isn't wrong.  I haul my route kids, plus 5-6 graders.  That is a weird age, and they do tend to get pretty smelly.  Saige has had a pretty good year.  She has been on the A honor roll all year, and has learned and grown.  I am proud of her.

Harper actually sent me both of these photos - the one above while she was dissecting frogs yesterday.  The photo sort of cracks me up in that I remember dissecting frogs in high school.  I am 100% sure we did not wear aprons and goggles.  And I know we didn't wear gloves, because I remember my hands smelling awful for a long time!  Harper is finishing her freshman year.  She has done a lot of growing this year.  She has overcome the freshman nervousness, and settled in to high school life.  She is planning to spend the summer getting her driver's license so she can quit riding the bus.  I am proud of her as well!

It is Evelyn's last day of Kindergarten, and Mallory's last day as a 1st grade teacher at OAC.  I love that they sent me a picture of them hugging.  Evie has grown up and done a great job in school this year!  Mallory is moving to greener pastures, but the one downside is that I won't be getting anymore pictures like this!  Mallory said she will definitely miss her lunch time hugs!

And Wrenley is ready for a break from being the best little bus para!
In the summertime, I miss my bus check, but I don't really miss the bus.  It has a way of slicing up my day into weird little chunks of time where I don't have time to finish the things I start.  I am looking forward to a little time where I don't have to continually run out the door.  I have had worse jobs, but I am looking forward to summer break!

I'm going to play with my baby dog,

And hang out in the pool.

I texted Madison to have her tell Evelyn that we are 3/4 of the way to swimming!  Just need a couple more days of filtering.  We should be good to go by the weekend.  Jim is going  to help me set the steps, and I personally need the weather to be about 10 degrees warmer than it has been and then we are set!  (I stuck my hand in there yesterday - the water is COLD!).
Cameron has been walking every day.  He sent me this photo - asking if this was a copperhead.   Yes! Leave that one alone!  I pointed out to him how the side of a copperhead looks like Hershey's kisses.  I think he appreciated my identification skills.  I suggested to him that he call the city and let them know so they could maybe issue a warning.  I know there are people who won't pay enough attention.  He did follow my advice, but he told me that when he called the city the lady basically told him that it wasn't her problem I guess warnings in KC aren't a thing.

And finally, I love this photo!  Another thing I am going to miss very soon.  For the last 20 years, Jim has worked up the street.  When I needed help, he would walk down.  When he is working around town, he often ran into the school kids - giving ours a quick hug, or otherwise embarrassing them.  Having him in town is a nice benefit of the job.  He was working up at the city park when the kindergarten was having a park outing.  Evie got a quick hug!  One of the paras at the school sent this to me.  I love it!
Too many changes for this old brain.  I am too much up in the feels today.
But no time for that -  bring on summer!
Time for bare feet
and popsicles
swimming pools
sun on your skin
ballpark nights
long evening strolls
gardening
mowing
sprinklers
fireflies
sitting outside listening to the birds
quick trips for ice cream
being thankful for air conditioning
a wedding
and hopefully a couple quick trips.
I personally can't wait - my happy place!
