Ball pics

Quincy had games tonight against Wellsville.  They lost both games, but Quincy played really well.  And have you ever seen higher quality photography?

Adventures in lawn work

Tonight is the only night we are going to be home this week.  As such, it became a night to do some yard work.  Preston was weed whipping, Quincy was mowing. I was cooking dinner.  Carlos was losing his sanity in the back yard. He was so tiny last summer, I just assumed he was freaking over the lawnmower.  After a while, I grew tired of listening to him barking, and sent Saige out to the back yard to retrieve him.  That is when she came back all upset.  Carlos was barking at a baby rabbit he found.  He grabbed it and ran when  he saw her coming.   She rescued it.  I explained it will most likely die.  That didn’t stop her from insisting we try to save it.  A little while later, the entire scenario repeated itself.  A second rabbit was saved from the mighty, great wabbit hunter.   Carlos lost a few points in Saige’s eyes tonight.  I honestly do not believe these babies will make it, but the girls are trying hard.  They have been rescued, fed some of the bottle baby’s goat milk, and safely stashed away in a box in Quincy’s room.  Lessons were learned last week, when Jewwy ate a freshly hatched chick right out of the incubator.  We are hoping, at the very least to keep them safe from dog and cat jaws!  Time will tell.

Less than 20

Well the one constant in my life is that weekends never stick around long enough.  But the good news is that Mallory started the countdown and there are less than 20 days of school left.   The pandemic precautions are starting to wear on the kids, exacerbating the 'ready for summer' vibes more than normal.  We are all ready for warmer weather, less rigorous schedules, and less mask wearing!   I hope by August.....oh never mind.

At least I am starting the new week off relaxed from my pedicure!

Saige likes to take my phone and snap random pictures.  I like this one a lot!

Madison sent me some pics from the after Sunday dinner fishing that was done!   Evie loves to go shishing!   I’m glad she caught some!
If I could do the weekend over, I definitely would!   No rest for the wicked though!   New week, new adventures!

Garage sale weekend.

City wide garage sale day is a giant love/hate for me.  The 4-H always has a sale. This is how we do it - we ask for donations from the families in our club and we advertise that we will accept your “treasures” from the community.  People show up and dump off all their stuff.  We organize it.  We open up on sale day with everything organized and we give it away for a free will donation to the 4-H.  So you see a brand new light fixture set and you want to give us $2?  That is fine.   You bought a book but love 4-H and so you throw the kids a $20?   We love that!   We don’t judge.  We don’t care what you pay.  We just let you drop money to a kid and walk out the door.  The first year we did this, it was solely because we had so many donations I was overwhelmed and I suggested it.  We made over $1500 that year.  And guess what?  We have never made less than $1200.  It is crazy how generous people are.  And since it is all donated stuff, it costs is nothing but time.  The CWF kids had a food stand and they made enough money that all of the people going are getting $125 for their accounts.  It is amazingly lucrative.

Last night, after the set up, Quincy and Landrie learned the finer art of breakfast burrito making. I was proud of them, I literally sat around and oversaw things but didn’t have to do any work.  It was amazing.  We sold out of burritos by 9:30.

We had great helpers, and hard workers today too.  I love this.  The only thing I hate is the amount of work that goes in.   Organizing, cooking, set up and clean up are a full 2 day process.  I feel like a need an additional day off now!

I was done with everything when we got home.  Jim worked today at a park and rec sale, and then at the city’s medication take back.  He was also done.  We ordered Chinese food and I am exceptionally happy about a night off from culinary duties.

Saige has been asking for weeks for her friends to come over for a sleepover.  I decided the time to do this is when I am already exhausted from a crazy day!   They did a small presentation for Preston and me.  They are pretty funny girls.   Loud and squirrley, but funny.

Preston worked at the vineyard today.  He battled a tree and lost.  Luckily he is ok.   He wasn’t super excited about the house load of girls that is here.  He feels extremely outnumbered.

I guess the best news is that we still have Sunday to get stuff done and relax!

What a day!

Woke up to find a couple inches of snow.  Despite my wishes for the forecast to be wrong, there it was.   Evelyn came in at 5:30 and announced “my no like snow!”   Me either kid!  Particularly in mid April!  The bus boss texted to say the roads were ok but spotty.  Seriously not what I want to deal with after spring break!   We decided it was ok for the kids to drive to school.  I like for them to get experience driving in bad weather, when it isn’t extremely bad.
The good news was that it was so wet that softball was cancelled. Normally I love to watch softball, however my toes haven’t thawed out from the night before!  I am hopeful that when it is rescheduled, it will be a lot warmer!   It saved me a trip to Burlington, which meant I was home to cook an actual real dinner and take pictures of Preston and his new car!   I am trying to find the positives more often, and this is all I could come up with.

A dear friend was selling this car.  Angela is a meticulous person, and so we knew she would have taken great care of her car.  Preston is extremely lucky that he got his hands on this deal!  (At least we hope so!).

Jim and I ran a ton of errands over our lunch break, and we had to hurry because Jim was helping Mallory with a project at school.  Interview day!   Mallory sent me these pictures and I love them.  We are so lucky that she teaches where we live so we can experience things like this. She’s a great teacher!  We are so proud of her!

Frozen games

Quincy had a game this evening. Actually, she plays double headers so she had 2 games tonight.  The longer I sat, the colder it got.  It is supposed to snow tonight.  Sometimes I would like to punch Kansas weather in the throat.  For real....it is spring.  We aren’t backsliding into winter.
Quincy had a couple of really great games.  Her team lost the first game and won the second. She made some amazing outs, and ripped one to the outfield.  She also got on base on a dropped 3rd strike and then scored on steals, and was hit by pitch 3 times.  Hit by pitch is something that Quincy loves.  Honestly, she thinks that is a hilarious way to get on base!!

I was very happy to come home where the heat is on!  The girls were so happy that they decided to stay home tonight!   We need softball weather!

Tomorrow is Bella’s birthday.  Lauren knows that I love pictures.  These crack me up and make me super happy.

Insufficient weekend

Madison and Andrew had a little weekend getaway to Kansas City this weekend.  I love these pictures.  When they came for Sunday dinner, Evie was so excited to tell us about the aquarium (quarim). She loves shish (fish)!   I am glad they got to go!
As for the rest of us, Jim had to work at the citywide clean up.  He was cracking us all up with his story of how it went well until the very end when a person showed up with a trailer load of cat poop items.  He was thankful for a backhoe being there to unload it!   The 4-H flower planting event got postponed due to the bipolar Kansas weather forecast of snow this week!  That was fine with me, as i then had my Saturday free for other projects!   We worked pretty hard preparing for the upcoming week, in which we have a sloppily laid out plan for tackling all of the junk that is on the calendar.   Preston worked the entire weekend.  He has his usual Saturday job at the vineyard, and he is helping a friend of a friend gut a house.   Last night, he asked me if he could stay home on Monday.   I asked him why.  He responded “insufficient weekend!”   I felt that in the core of my soul.
