Memorial Day weekend

It has been a good holiday weekend.  We didn’t go on any camping trips or make any trips to cemeteries, but we do thank those who have served our country.

Projects were the name of our game.  It actually didn’t rain for 2 days!   Miracle!   The city pool was supposed to open Saturday.  We woke up to the phone calls for Jim. Equipment malfunctions.  He left to help.  The little girls and I worked really hard.  We got the house cleaned, the laundry done, sheets washed, and a few projects finished.  Then we set to work on the pool.  We tried hard to get the pump running but just couldn’t get it to maintain the right amount of pressure.  I was sad knowing that Jim spent his Saturday working on the city pool, only to come home and deal with problems with our pool.  Preston came home from work and announced that he would do anything we needed help with Saturday evening and Sunday, but that he was proclaiming Monday as a day to sit and play video games and hang out in the basement all day.  I said “deal” and promptly put him to work.
The city still doesn’t have their pool fixed, but it turned out our problem was that I didn’t have the water level quite high enough.  Our pressure issues were resolved by adding a few inches more.  Thankfully!
The kids were a ton of help on Sunday.  After mass, they managed to get the yard mowed while Jim trimmed.  I worked on the pool some more, finished a few things, and we had Sunday dinner.   It was a great day of productivity.  After dinner, Andrew, Evie and Quincy went fishing. Q landed a pretty nice one!   Evie was so excited. She kept calling it a baby shish.
Quincy spent the weekend babysitting for a very spoiled cat. The directions for this job were actually hilarious.   Luckily, she kept the cat alive the whole weekend.

Today has been about as lazy as a day can get.  We slept in, watched tv, Preston hasn’t left the basement except to come up for some pizza we ordered for lunch.  I am still working on the pool, but now that the filters are running, I am just overseeing the filtering process.  Doesn’t matter anyway since the rain moved back in and it is 60* today.  Ain’t nobody swimming this Memorial Day!   It could be worse though, Spencer and Colin went to Colorado for vacation.  Colin texted to tell me that it is 35 and  snowing there!
Other excitement of the weekend- and it’s not much- Saige’s ants created a new tunnel and love apples.   Also, some friends of ours had a 50 gallon fish tank and stand in their garage.  I surprised Jim with it.   (He loves my surprises).  We cleaned out our old tank, and gave it and the 3 goldfish we had to Evie.  This tank needs a new lid and light but otherwise is in great shape and everything so far works.  Jim was actually excited about it.  He was ready to upgrade.   He likes the tropical fish and is excited about getting some different stuff.  Me, well I just like a project.

Not sure that I am ready for work tomorrow, but at least I can say there was some relaxation this time!
