We had the girls this week. Being grandparents is the best gig that Jim and I have ever had. We love our grandkids. That being said, our baby/little kid rearing skills are a bit rusty. We all made it, but we were all really excited to see Madison last night! Wrenley in particular missed her momma. Jim and I (and Mallory, Quincy, Harper and Saige)were just a little bit tired. You forget how much work it is - diapers, seatbelt/car seats, loading the car, bath time, bed time. Not to mention occasionally spacing off and then remembering you are supposed to be in charge of a silent but deadly almost 2 year old. I am thankful that the older girls were so helpful and willing to pitch in.
Evelyn had a couple of ball games this week. Andrew met us for the game, and we went to the park after the game at Harveyville. This was both so he could spend some time with the girls as well as to make them exhausted so we could go right to sleep!
A little story about my grandkids. When at the park, the first thing Evelyn said is “Grammy- this park’s slides are really tall and scary! I don’t know if they are safe!”
This was directly followed by looking up and seeing Wrenley was already at the top, ready to slide down with zero effort or fear. She’s the “hold my beer” part of the family for sure.
Evie’s team won their game at Harveyville and then lost their home game last night against the exact same team! I didn’t get any good photos at the home game since I somehow ended up being the dugout Grammy. Evie’s team seems to have some really sweet girls on it. I enjoyed hanging out with them. Also, I enjoyed that since I was in the dugout, Jim and Andrew had to chase Wrenley. ;)
This weekend brings a myriad of projects. I am currently at work at the liquor store. Jim is running errands for supplies for these projects. We have to build a bigger pen for the 4-H goats so that I can use the cage they are in for the meat chickens that are hatching later this week. In addition to meat birds, I am getting some more laying hens. I am excited to see what I get in my brown egg layer surprise box. I also went to lunch with my cousin yesterday, and then noticed the hardware store in Baldwin was discounting all their plants. A few jumped in the cart. I got up early and planted more tomatoes and peppers. I have to go home to plant some geraniums. I read that squirrels won’t eat geraniums - and since I am still battling the one at the end of the driveway, it’s on. I’ll hopefully win this time!
Our lives are busy, our hands are tired but we are full of gratitude.
