A friend of mine offered me some cherries if I came and picked them. Too good of an offer to turn down! So after 4-H I surprised the girls with a little cherry picking excursion. They were helpful, and we got a lot picked, but they didn't really like my idea of a fun evening event! :)
Lucky for me, they are easily persuaded with the promise of a Casey's stop.
We got quite a lot of cherries. I knew that they would need to be put in the freezer pretty immediately, so I came home and got to work pitting cherries. I got several quarts in the freezer, and I have a batch juicing in the refrigerator so that I can make jelly today. I am pleased with our little evening of excitement. I am also going to try to grow a cherry tree from the pits. I have been doing a little research, and although difficult, I think it will be a fun little project to do with the grandkids.
Madison is spending the rest of this week at a bus driving conference, so the grandkids are coming to spend the rest of the week with us. Since it is a rainy, muddy mess today, and is supposed to continue to be raining the rest of the week, we are going to need some indoor projects! Why not start some cherry pits in the refrigerator? :) If it works, it could be a really awesome lesson! If it doesn't work, well, we aren't out anything but a couple paper towels I guess.
The rain did get Quincy a day off from her CNA classes, as they cancelled due to potential flooding. I have never heard of such a thing- but I guess better safe than sorry! I don't think she was too upset about it!
