Football and farm tour

Preston played in the halftime show at the homecoming game last night.   I was unprepared for how cold it got when the sun went down, and was thankful I didn’t have to stay for the second half of the game.  Quincy also went in unprepared and left with me!   We stopped off for hot chocolate and talked about how wimpy we are.  The band did great!   The football team won without us watching.  I don’t know if you can tell from these photos, but pandemic band is interesting.  They all have special masks that open like a curtain.  They also have covers on the ends of their instruments.  I do notice they sound a little bit muffled, but under the circumstances, I’m just happy they are trying so hard to continue to give the kids music education.

Today the girls and I had a fun day. We started out at an auction for some people at our church.  They are selling all their belongings and planning on traveling around in an RV.  We picked up a pole saw and some hedge trimmers for Jim.  The stuff I went to buy was far down the line and the auctioneer today was very slow, so we left to attend the Kaw Valley Farm tour.   We absolutely love the farm tour!   We picked up Dusty and Landrie, and decided to hit up the farms in the Baldwin, and Vinland areas.  We visited an alpaca farm, a highland cattle ranch, an orchard, a turkey farm, and a one room schoolhouse that has been restored and opened by the historical society.

We got to see old friends, learn some about agriculture, and had a fun day laughing and talking.  They handled the tour by making masks mandatory, and spacing everything out.  We feel like it was a safe, fun, outdoor activity.

Last April, Harper’s 4th grade class was supposed to take a field trip to the one room school in Topeka.  Of course, we all know what happened to that.  She was pretty sad about it.  The one room school today was a highlight of the trip.  Harper was impressed and happy.  The historical society had a fantastic speaker who told the kids a lot of history and let them try writing with an ink calligraphy pen and explained all sorts of historical education information.  I’m so thankful we had this day of fun.  It was much needed and amazing.

Lookie who got out of being quarantined.   Welcome back Lauren!
And the best part of all of this was I came home to a much cleaner house than I left.  Thank you Preston!   He should get left at home alone more often!! (He was given the opportunity to go with us and chose to stay home instead.)
