My favorite kind of day is one where all of my kids are all together, with good food and funny conversations. But the reality is that those days are sort of few and far between these days. If I had a second favorite, yesterday would be it. Nothing to do. Absolutely no place to go. Nobody needed anything. We slept in. Had a big home cooked breakfast, lounged around, did some cleaning at a slow pace. I got time to visit with Jim, who also had nothing to do. It was delightful. And amazing.
In the afternoon, Evie’s goat, Babe had one big kid! Luckily it is a doeling! I can’t wait for Evelyn to get here today and tell us what crazy name she picked out for her baby girl!
Since I was in the barnyard anyway, I took a couple of pictures. You might remember Mr. Mackey? The goat who lived in our living room in a box for weeks and weeks and couldn’t get himself up? We experimented with so many treatments and then gave him vitamin E hand lotion (accidentally) but it worked? He was up and running! He hasn’t ever slowed down. I cannot bring myself to sell him knowing some one would eat him. He’s just here. For however long he lives. And he is a good boy. He loves us, and we love him too. Biggest waste of feed on the planet, but if you can not see the value of owning a pet goat, I couldn’t ever explain it to you anyway.
Last year’s bottle babies - Betty and Chiz. Spoiled rotten messes. Betty breaks out and runs for the house every chance she gets. Chiz hasn’t grown the way we would like her to, but she definitely eats. Maybe some warmer weather will help.
I’m still infatuated with my brown egg layer special. So much variety and pretty birds. They are laying about 12-15 eggs a day. Seriously we love our girls! So much so that I may have ordered another rainbow variety box! They will arrive later this spring! Seriously though- have you ever seen prettier birds?
And this - makes my heart happy! Do you know what this is? Strawberries! Poking through the straw! Never have I been more excited about plants! I can’t wait until it is warm enough (consistently) to uncover them and see what lived through winter!
I don’t think I will ever grow tired of where we live. I am overtly thankful for peace, fresh air, space to play, a few critters to love, and a darn good life.
This weekend, Quincy is dog sitting for Colin and Spencer. She sent this photo of Cash. He is the funniest dog! He always has a ball but won’t let you have it. No fetch for him- just a comfort tennis ball! Quincy also went to some place and listened to a band she is all excited about now. I’m glad she’s enjoying her spring break!
This is Evelyn’s new baby! When I say she is a big girl, I’m not joking! She is huge! And adorable! I’m living the black headed babies we got this time!
Our kidding season was short this time, but I am thankful that we have 3 healthy kids on the ground, 2 healthy does who didn’t require any intervention, and that they were born in warmer weather!
It was a perfect Saturday- thankful, happy and blessed am I.
