A wild but fun Friday.

My friend is the pool manager this summer. Last week, she asked if our kids might help out at their lifeguard training by pretending to be drowning victims.
Because she was willing to pay them in ice cream, they readily agreed.  I think it was a good lesson for them too.  They learned how some of the equipment they see around the pool works.
Cameron and Colin have been umpiring a lot this summer.  I don't know that I would say they enjoyed it, but they did have a lot of funny stories.  Cameron did a good job during the tournament tonight.  He couldn't umpire the championship game though, because Preston was playing.
Preston had a pretty good game.  His team ended up beating the Carbondale team by 1.  That was amazing.
We are very proud of these boys and loved watching them this summer.  A lot of talent and great coaching, as well as a team full of boys who get along well made the summer fun.
To me, though, by far the coolest part of the night was when the Carbondale team came over and congratulated the Overbrook team and they hugged each other and asked for pictures together.  These boys all go to school together and are friends.  It was an amazing show of sportsmanship and friendship.  I  am proud to know all of them.
Preston is sad this season is over.  Playing ball with 2 of his best buds was awesome.
Not only are they tournament champions, they also got metals for being 2nd in the league.  Great job boys!

This week

Colin has been working 3 jobs this summer.  Ranching, ball field work and umpiring have kept him extremely busy.  He is also on a summer schedule for wrestling and trying to have fun with his friends.  All told, we have not seen much of him lately.  Which is why when he is home, Saige latches on like a leech.  She was riding his back while he did push-ups.  Giggling like a hyena the whole time.  I hope he has some time to visit us after he moves next month because his little sister will be very lost.
Quincy's team won their first round tournament game and then lost the second round.  She had a good game and was disappointed that they didn't make it further.  Ice cream seems to fix disappointments.
Curley is completely convinced that she is a dog.  She sleeps on the front porch.  Jim uses every opportunity to mess with her.  She doesn't seem too worried about it.
Cameron spent this week at Drum Major Camp at KSU (yes that is a real thing!).  He was named as one of 6 kids who had "outstanding attitude" during the camp.  He said the camp was pretty good and he learned some stuff.  I am extremely proud of him.  He also was pretty excited because he got to meet DJ Johnson.
Preston's team won their first round tournament game tonight.  They are talented and fun to watch!  I think they have a great chance of going all the way!

Double digits

This crazy girl turned 10 years old today! Hard to believe she is so old already!  She is fun, crazy, animal loving, competitive, and sensitive.  She keeps us all guessing all the time.  We love her and can't imagine our lives without her!
When I asked her what she wanted for her birthday, she didn't miss a beat....a trip to the swap meet this coming weekend.  Of course, she also wants money for birds at this swap meet.  I had to laugh ....what 10 year old asks for poultry for a birthday gift?
Quincy had her first game of her tournament for her birthday.  She played great, and her team pulled out a win!  Mallory was my photographer.  Thanks to her!
We are sure proud of this little girl.  Happy birthday Q!  We love you!

Tball finale

Saige had a really fun time being on the Yeller Fellers Tball team this summer.
Sometimes Tball is rough.  Sometimes the kids are hot, or think that they should only bat and not field. Sometimes there are even tears.  But not from Saige. We were really proud of her listening to the coaches and doing what they wanted her to do.
It was fun having cousins to play with.  Her coaches were great too!
Anytime you get a trophy its a good day right?
Not only a trophy, but snacks too!  Madison baked baseball cookies!  They were really pretty and tasted good too!
It was a fun season!

Some stuff

Cameron is getting close to finished with summer league.  His team is having a rough go. However, Cameron loves to play and we think any practice is good practice.  It is time I get to hang out with Cameron, and some of my winter sports mom friends, so I think it's fun!
Preston is on an amazing ball team this summer.  Not only are they fun to watch on the field, but they are friends off the field as well.  They are commonly heard planning out time to get together and hang out at the pool.  Preston truly likes these boys and is having a great time!
For Quincy, any time in the water is a good time.  I noticed today the lifeguards all know her and egg her on in her diving board trickery.  I also overheard them giggling and calling her the bellyflop Queen.
Harper is doing so well.  I am not a believer in swimming lessons.  It sounds like a bad mom statement, but seriously, if you put your kids in the water and make them feel safe there, they learn to swim.  Maybe not Olympic grade swimming, but as good as being able to save themselves and keep up with their friends.  I figure if they want to be on the Olympic team, they can train for that later.  I have a similar view of taking drivers Ed.  It isn't necessarily a viewpoint shared by my spouse.
The best part of summer.....no debates over bedtime.
