The Overbrook Osage county fair is this week. It is a very small, scaled down affair. I am thankful that we are getting to do it though and glad for our fair board making the most of a bad situation. The kids have meat goats, chickens, ducks, foods and a dog poster entered.
We were very pleased that all of our goats made weight! Four goats through the auction to complete this year!
There was a little bit of decision making regarding wearing masks. Our county made it optional. The state 4-H said it was recommended for indoor activities. The fair board said it was optional. I felt like since we are outdoors and it is mostly possible to stay socially distant we could forgo it. Part of my thought process was also that it is flat hot and humid outside!
The foods and other such projects were closed to judging. Only judges and a couple of helpers allowed in the building. Quincy had Madison help her make an apple pie. She got a purple ribbon! We didn’t taste the pie, Quincy gave it to the fair board President (cousin Luke).
Madison also helped Saige make peanut butter and cocoa sugar cookies. She got purples on both! She is too young for the state fair, and Quincy didn’t want to enter so we are finished with fancy baking for this year!
Saige made a poster for her pet project. She got a blue ribbon.
The kids all did goat showmanship. They all did a great! Harper got a little bit anxious and was a little bit intimidated. She worked through it and did a good job!
All of our goats were similar in size (70-75 pounds) and were all in the same class. Saige’s goat did great and ended up showing for reserve champion over all. (She didn’t win but it is always good to be in there!). All the goats got blue ribbons and we are super happy with how that went!
I always love the county fair! I am proud of these kids. They do their own work. They have put in a lot of time and energy. They have learned a lot and I am just super blessed to watch them do the stuff they love!
