Camping weekend

I have lived my whole life in Kansas, but recently realized I haven’t seen much of the state.  There are tons of nerdy historical and interesting geological places I have neglected.  So I asked Jim if he wanted to take a weekend and do nerd activities and fish at Kanapolis Lake with me.  He jumped at the chance, but I think it’s because he only heard the fishing part!   We decided to camp at Kanapolis, and look at some of the local stuff.   When I say camp, I rented a cabin (with plumbing, heat/air) at the lake.  Harper and Saige decided at the last minute to stay home.  Harper had a mandatory band obligation. And Saige just doesn’t  like traveling much.  Thanks to Mallory for getting Harper to her band gig. And thanks to the girls for taking care of the critters all weekend!
I should also mention that today is Preston’s 20th birthday.  I swear to you, I lost the last 10 years.   Last I knew, he was turning 10!   He is a good man, and is working hard to make a good life for himself.  We are very proud.  We will stop by on our way home tomorrow and see him for a late birthday lunch!
I had a doctor appointment where I was told I could stop wearing the sling and start using my arm.  Whoops.
I also went to my first physical therapy appointment.  It was nice to get some strengthening exercises and have some guidance on ways to move that will help but aren’t as painful.  I liked the therapist a lot, and will continue to see her once a week for the next few weeks.

Jim was packed and ready when I got home and we took off.  First stop- sonic. Of course.  But first tour of Kansas stop - Rock City in Minneapolis.  It was a cool little place.  It kind of has a creepy feeling to it.  For one thing, it is surrounded by fields of corn and Milo. There is no way you could farm around these big rocks.  So many questions.   Where did they come from?  Are there more that they had to remove to farm the land?   Much research will be done by me later.  But for today, a thankfulness to my husband, for once again indulging my love of seeing weird obscure places and for not whining about making a 2 + hour car drive to see some rocks for about 15 minutes.   My heart is happy.

We made it to Kanapolis, got checked into our cabin, and scouted out fishing spots.  More adventures to come!

Also a message from home.  Carlos is sad we didn’t take him with us.  He went over to Mallory’s house and had a play date with Daisy Paige instead.
