Cameron finished his internship with the city of Manhattan today. His last day was a field trip. He said he enjoyed both the internship and the field trip.
A friend from church gave us a couple bushels of apples. Preston and Quincy’s weekend job gave them a bushel of tomatoes. We have made apple butter and are working on canning pie filling. The house smells amazing. Saige had been a ton of help! We are also hoping to make some apple jelly and maybe freezing some for yummy desserts this winter. The tomatoes are just a touch on the green side, so we have them sitting to ripen. We have plans for making salsa, and freezing some for using in soups and chili this winter. Always nice to be given fresh produce!
The goats haven’t done well this summer. Harper’s inexplicably died. The others just haven’t grown well. Preston and Quincy’s might make weight (must weight 50 pounds to sell). It’s going to be close. Saige’s will not make weight, so she is going to show her in the breeding class and do showmanship. Dale is not even close. We made the decision to sell him on our own, and not take him to the fair. He’s a super friendly little dude though! We have spent a lot of money feeding these darn things premium goat food. They prefer to eat sticks and twigs. It is ridiculous. Maybe next year will be better!
School enrollment opened this week. That prompted Jim to getting the kids to help with trimming the driveway trees so that we can get the bus in here. I would just like to say that watching my kid stand on the truck with a pole saw above his head just isn’t high on my list of stuff I enjoy. They got quite a lot done and I do appreciate it.
I had some good news at my hospital appointment today. Most of the infection appears to be clearing up and there was some closing of the wound. I hope to be finished with that little project as soon as possible.
