Harper (above) Saige (below) and Quincy (far below) all played in their last games of the regular season this week. A few things from the mom - I am happy that the girls played this summer. I think being on a team, having fun with their friends, being active, and getting out of the house doing stuff is great for them. As the mom, I am happy to see the season winding down. We have had exactly 3 nights at home since we got back from Arkansas, and I am starting to fall behind on life. (Don't tell Jim - I know he loves ball season and would happily hang out watching games all year long).
Harper's team (The Electric Tunafish) has been really fun to watch this season. As a matter of fact, this is probably the best team she has ever been on. She has a couple of great coaches who are more focused on helping the girls improve, and less worried about winning the game. They have won games, and are successful, but that just isn't their focus. She is playing with girls who like playing, and with parents who seem to be focused on their kids having fun. I have enjoyed watching them. They start tournament play next week (all 3 teams) and I think Harper has had a good time playing.
Saige's team (Lady Chargers) has also been really fun to watch. These girls have all really improved! Saige has had a chance to play several positions, and has gotten to try her hand at pitching, which she loves! She has had a lot of fun! Her coaches are great, and the girls are all having fun, which is the important part! I think they have a great chance of doing well in the tournament. It has been an enjoyable experience.
Quincy's team (the Red Rockets) is a little bit of a different story. She has a dad who has never coached before, and his video game playing friend as her coaches. I don't mean to be rude, but it is quite obvious that they have no idea what is going on, how to handle a bunch of teenage girls, or really anything about softball. The other parents are a lot of drama-loving people. It has been a long, mentally challenging season. Have they won a few games? Yes, they have. Has it been because of the coaching strategy? No, because there isn't one. That being said, I think Quincy likes playing and has had some fun. She is a really talented player. Last night, she even pitched, which we haven't seen her do in about 3 years. She came in after the other pitcher walked quite a few players, and they had only 1 out. She ended up helping them get outs, and then went on to score the winning run. I love watching her play, and am sort of sad that this is her last year for summer ball.
