Fair 2022

We were up early, and in true Overbrook fair fashion, it rained.  Not enough to ruin the fair, but enough to make it muddy underfoot and spike the humidity up to 250%.  Kidding.  Sort of.  My kids are officially at an age where they’ve able to do most of the work all by themselves.  Saige went with me early and entered a poster, photography, flowers, foods, chickens and rabbits.  The other kids came a little later and brought the goats in.   I was busy taking entries for the rabbit and poultry barn, so I am very proud of them for carrying most of the load.  The only thing that got miscommunicated was that Preston put Evelyn’s little wethered goat in the open breeding goat class.  It’s a little hard to breed a Wether.  Evie didn’t seem to care.  She did a great job showing her goat!

Saige participated in consultation judging for photography and foods.  She got blues on her pictures and  came away with some good pointers.  She got a blue on her lemon muffins, a  blue on her cocoa sugar cookies, and a red on her blueberry muffins.  On the blueberry muffins, they were honesty some of the best muffins I have ever tasted, but they sunk and were incredibly ugly.  I’ll still eat them.  Any day of the week!
Saige also got grand champion on the poster she made about Carlos.

This evening was the goat show.  I am so proud of these kids.  The show was sooooo long.  They helped each other, helped Evelyn, were patient, and worked really hard in hot, humid, nasty conditions.

Their goats all got blue ribbons.  They also all received blues in showmanship.  Evelyn’s goat got disqualified (because well- Wether in a breeding class) but Preston will give her his blue ribbon and she was still happy!
It was a good first day.  Despite the swamp a$$, I enjoyed seeing all of the kids exhibits and hanging out with old friends.  That being said, I’m going to bed, because there’s no tired like fair tired!
